Synopsis

"The First Men in the Moon" is a scientific romance by the English author H.G. Wells, originally serialized in "The Strand Magazine" from December 1900 to August 1901 and published in hardcover in 1901. The author called it one of his "fantastic stories." The novel tells the story of a journey to the Moon undertaken by the two protagonists: a businessman narrator, Mr. Bedford; and an eccentric scientist, Mr. Cavor. Bedford and Cavor discover that the Moon is inhabited by a sophisticated extraterrestrial civilization of insect-like creatures the call "Selenites."

In mid-1880s Brooklyn, New York, Cedric Errol lives with his Mother (never named, known only as Mrs Errol or "dearest") in genteel poverty after his Father Captain Errol dies. They receive a visit from Havisham, an English lawyer with a message from Cedric's grandfather, Lord Dorincourt. Cedric is now Lord Fauntleroy and heir to the Earldom and a vast estate. The Earl wants Cedric to live with him and learn to be an English aristocrat. He offers Mrs Errol a house and income but refuses to meet or have anything to do with her. The crusty Earl is impressed by the appearance and intelligence of his young American grandson, and charmed by his innocent nature. He admits that Cedric, who has befriended and cared for the poor and needy on the Earl's estate, will be a better Earl than he was. A pretender to Cedric's inheritance appears, but the claim is investigated and disproved with the assistance of Cedric's loyal American friends. The Earl is reconciled to his son's American widow. The Earl had intended to teach his grandson how to be an aristocrat; however, Cedric inadvertently teaches his grand-father that an aristocrat should practice compassion and social justice towards persons who are dependent on him. The Earl becomes the kind and good man Cedric always innocently believed him to be. Cedric is reunited with his mother, who comes to live in the ancestral castle with them. "Little Lord Fauntleroy" is the first children's novel written by English–American playwright and author Frances Hodgson Burnett. (Summary by Wikipedia)

Living Space by Isaac Asimov - Having mastered probability lanes, man found an indefinite number of Earths—and everyone could have a planet all to himself, if he wanted. But there was one joker in the deal...
Clarence Rimbro had no objections to living in the only house on an uninhabited planet, any more than had any other of Earth’s even trillion of inhabitants.
If someone had questioned him concerning possible objections, he would undoubtedly have stared blankly at the questioner. His house was much larger than any house could possibly be on Earthproper, and much more modern. It had its independent air-supply and water-supply; ample food in its freezing compartments. It was isolated from the lifeless planet on which it was located by a force-field, but the rooms were built about a five-acre farm (under glass, of course) which, in the planet’s beneficient sunlight, grew flowers for pleasure and vegetables for health. It even supported a few chickens. It gave Mrs. Rimbro something to do with herself afternoons, and a place for the two little Rimbros to play when they were tired of indoors.
Furthermore, if one wanted to be on Earth-proper; if one insisted on it; if one had to have people around, and air one could breathe in the open, or water to swim in — one had only to go out of the front door of the house.
    So where was the difficulty?

How the Alphabet Was Made is one of Rudyard Kipling’s most inventive and affectionate Just So Stories—a playful yet thoughtful tale about how spoken sounds first became written symbols.
On the banks of the great Wagai River, curious Taffy and her patient father Tegumai begin a game: turning everyday noises—ah, sh, ya, yo—into simple drawings scratched on bark. What starts as a private amusement slowly becomes something far greater. Through shared discovery, gentle humor, and careful observation, pictures begin to stand for sounds, sounds for words, and words for meaning carried across distance and time.
Told with warmth, wit, and Kipling’s distinctive narrative voice, this story blends prehistoric imagination with timeless insight into how communication shapes human connection. Beneath the playful surface lies a quiet reverence for learning, memory, and the origins of language itself.
Narrated with clarity and charm, this classic tale invites listeners of all ages to experience the joy of discovery—and to see the alphabet not as something invented all at once, but as something lovingly made, mark by mark, sound by sound.

Just when I thought things couldn’t get any more frustrating, Bertrand asked me a very serious question. I wanted to say no. But then Vincent had a plan—and for some reason, I said yes.

Scripture Cat is written from the perspective of a family cat (Oliver) who had been rescued from a dumpster by a Christian family. He soon realizes the truth of the Word of the Bible as he sits in their laps while his human Mom and Dad read their daily morning devotionals. Everyone notices the calming effect the passages have over his wild-self, including Oliver. He begins to understand the power of what is being read aloud and who Jesus is.
Join Oliver as he discovers these truths and what it looks like for him as he applies them to his daily life that he shares with this family and two odd and distinctly different dogs named Libby and Lola.
This relatable character will win the hearts of children by inspiring and teaching the Biblical principles that we all are meant to know. Parents will feel good about their children reading this book series as the stories mirror true challenges middle year readers face. Inner conflict, acceptance, obedience and disciplines are addressed in a comical and whimsical way.
