Synopsis

The Ambassadors by Henry James is a 1903 novel by Henry James, originally published as a serial in the North American Review (NAR). The novel is a dark comedy which follows the trip of protagonist Lewis Lambert Strether to Europe to bring the son of his widowed fiancée back to the family business. The novel is written in the third-person narrative from Strether's point of view.

Lewis Lambert Strether, the protagonist of the novel, is a cultured man in his fifties from the fictional town of Woollett, Massachusetts, who is dispatched to Paris to find Chad, the wayward son of his fiancée Mrs Newsome. The book is entirely told from Strether's point of view and chronicles his change from an American to a European view of things.

Strether, a middle-aged American of insignificant means, is sent to Paris by Mrs. Newsome, his wealthy fiancée. The mission he has been given is to talk her son, Chad, into returning to the family business in Woollett, Massachusetts.

The Newsome family believes that Chad might be overstaying his European tour because of an inappropriate romantic liaison, perhaps with a vulgar adventuress. The reader is given to understand, in indirect ways, that if Strether fails, his engagement to Mrs. Newsome is at risk.

And so, the story writers used to say, "they lived happily ever after."Um-m-m-maybe. After the glamour had worn off, and the glass slippers were worn out, did the Prince never find Cinderella's manner redolent of the kitchen hearth; and was it never necessary that he remind her to be more careful of her finger-nails and grammar? After Puss in Boots had won wealth and a wife for his young master did not that gentleman often fume with chagrin because the neighbors, perhaps, refused to call on the lady of the former poor miller's son? It is a great risk to take with one's book-children. These stories make no such promises. They stop just short of the phrase of the old story writers, and end truthfully, thus: And so they lived. E. F. (Summary from the Foreword to "Buttered Side Down")

Emerie Fox's New Home Comes with Unwanted Surprises . . .
Leaky pipes, moldy basements—and a mischievous demon poltergeist who's redecorating her home, stealing her stuff, and leaving blood-soaked messages on the mirror. Sure, the messages are helpful (like reminders to buy milk or grab an umbrella), but Emerie is not the kind of person who tolerates vermin—supernatural or otherwise.
When DIY Exorcism Goes Wrong . . .
In a desperate attempt to rid herself of the supernatural nuisance, Emerie accidentally rips open a rift between worlds, unleashing the forces of Hell onto her quiet New England town. Now, with a sarcastic witch, a no-nonsense priest, and a dangerously attractive (and seriously irritated) demon named Samael by her side, Emerie has no choice but to track down and exorcise every demon before the portal to Hell consumes everything.
But as things spiral out of control, Emerie begins to wonder: is this just a simple case of demon extermination, or is something far darker—and much more personal—at play?
Perfect for fans of dark humor, supernatural adventure, and steamy demon romance, this fast-paced, laugh-out-loud paranormal romp will keep you hooked until the very end!

For once, these men are the objects; I am the subject. Me, me, me.
Rosemary Mac Cabe was always a serial monogamist – never happier than when she was in a relationship or, at the very least, on the way to being in one. But in her desperate search for ‘the one’ – from first love to first lust, through a series of disappointments and the searing sting of heartbreak – she learned that finding love might mean losing herself along the way.
This Is Not About You is a life story in a series of love stories. About Henry, with the big nose and the lovely mum, with whom sex was like having a verruca frozen off in the doctor’s surgery: ‘uncomfortable, but I had entered into this willingly’. About Dan, with the goatee. About Luke, who gave her a split condom. About Frank, who was married…
But mostly, it’s about Rosemary, figuring out just how much she was willing to sacrifice for her happy ending.
