The authors explain how to place iconic items of furniture like the love seat and the dresser and rotate them throughout the home as the style or need changes. Illustrated with photographs of homes and apartments that the McGraths have designed, as well as apartments by some iconic designers, this book is a wonderful resource, whether you are starting out with your first apartment or rethinking the design of your home.   “A must-read for first-timers and seasoned home decorators alike.” —Traditional Home

Go deeper into this national treasure with “a sumptuous collection of photographs [that] captures the wonderment and majesty of the cave system” (Louisville Courier-Journal).

Kentucky’s Mammoth Cave National Park is home to the world's longest cave system, boasting over 350 miles of explored and mapped passageways—and geologists estimate that there could be many more miles of this vast subterranean world that remain unexplored. In addition to the renowned Mammoth Cave, the park also includes over 50,000 acres of hills, streams, and forests with nearly seventy miles of scenic trails.

The Green River, which plays an integral role in the cave’s ecosystem, winds through this impressive landscape. As an artist-in-residence at the park, nature photographer Raymond Klass was granted access to the cave and the surrounding wilderness. While living at the park, he took thousands of photographs of famous cave formations, such as Frozen Niagara and the Drapery Room, as well as scenery and wildlife not often seen by the general public. Mammoth Cave National Park: Reflections is a record of Klass’s unique visual exploration of the above- and belowground ecosystems within the park.

With more than 100 dramatic full-color photographs, accompanied by Klass’s commentary and extracts from the journal he kept while living and working in the park, this book captures the sights and surprises of the vast underground world of the cave system—its labyrinths and mineral formations, remnants of human visitors and gypsum miners, streams and rivers hundreds of feet below the surface, and more.

“The detail in the photographs lets the reader absorb the wonder of Mammoth Cave perhaps more than a simple day trip to the park could ever provide.” —Kentucky Living

Steam on the Southern and Western is a personal record of railway views that were captured on black and white film in the late 1950s and 1960s, until the demise of steam on British Railways. The style of the book is the well-tried and- tested picture and captions format, and the majority of the pictures are black and white photography. Not every picture portrays a train as there are interesting branch line and infrastructure scenes to view as well. Furthermore, the book is intended to represent an eclectic mix of subjects and not to solely show main line scenes, for example. The book covers the Southern and Western regions of British Railways, with the Somerset and Dorset Railway included for good measure, as it fits neatly into the areas of the country for this volume. It also carries its share of photographs of British Railways standard locomotives in the locations appropriate to the regions. Where preservation starts to overlap with the still-active steam scene, some historic photographs are included.Photographs are grouped together by a particular location, for example, the Redhill to Reading line of the Southern, and Oxford on the Western. Each of these topic areas provides a flavour of the railway activity at the time. Overall, the book presents the reader with a gentle meander through the 1950's and 1960's railway scene and will stir the memories that so many of us have seen and still treasure today.

A Girls' Guide to the Islands

Suzanne Kamata lived in Japan for more than half of her life, yet she had never explored the small nearby islands of the Inland Sea. The islands are noted for displaying artwork created by prominent, and sometimes curious, international artists and sculptors: Naoshima’s wealth of museums, including one devoted to 007, Yayoi Kusama’s polka dot pumpkins, Kazuo Katase’s blue teacup, and a monster rising out of a well on the hour in Sakate, called “Anger at the Bottom of the Sea”—to name a few. Spurred by her teen-aged daughter Lilia’s interest in art and adventure, Kamata sets out to show her the islands’ treasures. Mother and daughter must confront several barriers on their adventure. Lilia is deaf and uses a wheelchair. It is not always easy to get onto — or off of — the islands, not to mention the challenges of language, culture, and a generation gap.
