Beschreibung

The memoirs of the Franco-German war of 1870-1871 by Field Marshal von Moltke give the objective account of the events from the participant's point of view. The book was written in 1887 and is based on the notes and diaries of the author, created during the war. But, it is known, the author refused to create memoirs telling he preferred his memories be buried with him. Yet, after changing his mind, he created a full and detailed opus, reflecting all the main and secondary battles of the war, chief events, peace talkings, and the outcomes.

An enchanting memoir of grief, hope, and love, alongside the joy of exploring ancient landscapes, which uncovers the wonder of Britain's ancient megaliths.Journeying across Britain, from West Penwith and Avebury to the Lake District and Orkney, Stone Lands uncovers the magic and rich history of Britain's incredible prehistoric standing stones. It conveys the delight that lies in tracking them down, as well as the solace these ancient places offer in times of darkness.A few months after discovering that her beloved husband, Stephen, had incurable cancer, Fiona Robertson began to write this book. A long-time megalith enthusiast, she found the ancient stones resonated with her more profoundly than ever as she faced the prospect of losing him. Set upright thousands of years ago, the megaliths are symbols of endurance and survival, standing in contrast to our ephemeral human lives. Infused with folklore, legend, and mystery, these standing stones enchant the landscape and bring magic to our modern world. This enthralling memoir is woven delicately around great grief but is ultimately about embracing life, joy, and ancient wonder—a luminous reminder of what it means to exist on this earth.

Imitation: The Basics is an engaging introduction to the topic of imitation behavior in humans, providing a summary of existing scientific research on imitation, covering everything from examples of imitation across each developmental stage to animal imitation such as monkeys imitating each other.

The authors argue that imitation forms the foundation of long-lasting relationships, including those between children and parents, as well as intimate partners. Structured to resemble a human lifetime, chapters explore the reasons behind why people imitate, and address imitation across all phases of life, starting from infancy, childhood, adolescence, adulthood and ending with late adulthood. The authors describe characteristic forms of imitation that occur in these life stages and provide answers to the following important questions: Who do humans imitate? Who is more likely to imitate others? What kind of behaviors do humans imitate? Is there a dark side of imitation? When do humans imitate each other? And are there cultural differences in imitation?

Written in a clear and accessible style, this book is perfect for undergraduate students of social psychology, developmental psychology and neuroscience, as well as professionals, academics and any general listeners interested in research about human social behavior.

"It Didn't Start with You" by Mark Wolynn explores the idea that mental and physical health issues like depression, anxiety, chronic pain, and phobias may not solely stem from our own life experiences or brain chemistry but can be inherited from our ancestors. Drawing on scientific research, including the work of experts like Rachel Yehuda and Bessel van der Kolk, the book shows how trauma can be passed down through generations, even when the original trauma source is long gone or forgotten. Mark Wolynn, a pioneer in the field of inherited family trauma, offers the Core Language Approach, a practical method for uncovering and addressing these hidden emotional legacies. The book includes diagnostic self-inventories, techniques for creating family trees, and tools like visualization and active imagination to facilitate healing and reconnection. "It Didn't Start With You" provides a transformative approach to resolving deep-seated issues that traditional therapy or medications may not fully address.

Twenty years since its first publication, this new anniversary edition of the Holocaust memoir of George Salton (then Lucjan Salzman), gives listeners a personal and powerful account of his survival through one of the darkest periods in human history. With heartbreaking and honest reflection, the author shares a gripping first-person narrative of his transformation from a Jewish eleven-year-old boy living happily in Tyczyn, Poland, with his brother and parents, to his experiences as a teenage victim of growing persecution, brutality, and imprisonment as the Nazis pursued the Final Solution. The author takes the listener back in time as he reveals in vivid and engrossing details the painful memories of life in his childhood town during Nazi occupation, the forced march before his jeering and cold-eyed former friends and neighbors as they are driven from their homes into the crowded and terrible conditions in the Rzeszow ghetto, and the heart-wrenching memory of his final farewell as he is separated from his parents who would be sent in boxcars to the Belzec extermination camp.

This new and substantially reworked twentieth anniversary edition incorporates research based on recently discovered documents related to George Salton's concentration camp experience, a new foreword by Michael Berenbaum, and a new afterword of George Salton's unpublished speeches.
