Synopsis

When master thief–turned–Special Corps agent Slippery Jim diGriz uncovers blueprints that perfectly match the long-extinct Warlord-class battleships, he realizes the galaxy faces a threat no one else has even noticed. A planet that should have no interest in war is secretly building the most devastating ship ever conceived — and no one in power seems to know why. 
Determined to uncover the truth, diGriz burrows through layers of forged orders, bribed officials, falsified records, and one staggeringly bold deception. But when the completed battleship vanishes and innocent ships begin turning up as drifting wreckage, diGriz is forced into a deadly pursuit against a criminal mind whose ambition is matched only by their audacity. The chase leads to betrayal, manipulation, and a reveal that even diGriz’s nimble instincts never anticipated. 
Harry Harrison (1925–2012) was a legendary name in science fiction, celebrated for his sharp wit, inventive plots, and breakneck pacing. A veteran illustrator turned writer, Harrison developed a distinct style built on clever twists, cleverer heroes, and a playful disregard for authority — themes showcased brilliantly in the Stainless Steel Rat adventures. 
Known for classics like Make Room! Make Room! (the basis for Soylent Green), Deathworld, and Bill, the Galactic Hero, Harrison blended humor, adventure, and social commentary in ways few writers matched. His work continues to influence sci-fi storytellers across books, comics, radio, and film.
