Synopsis

Ridiculous Film Plots explores the bizarre and often hilarious world of cinema where narratives go off the rails. It's not about critiquing masterpieces but rather celebrating films whose plots become infamous for their incoherence. The book examines how mishandled narrative elements, like plot holes and inconsistent character motivations, contribute to these nonsensical outcomes.

Did you know that some of these films become cult classics, cherished precisely for their narrative absurdity? The book analyzes the historical and cultural influences that might have led to these outlandish stories, considering factors like studio interference and experimental filmmaking. It argues that these "bad" plots can reveal much about filmmaking trends and audience expectations.

Beginning with a theoretical framework, Ridiculous Film Plots then delves into specific categories of convoluted plots, such as time-travel paradoxes and dream-within-a-dream scenarios, and culminates in a discussion of why these films appeal to audiences. Through script analysis and consideration of audience reactions, the book takes a conversational yet analytical approach.

It’s aimed at film students, screenwriters, and anyone who appreciates the absurdity of cinema, offering a fresh perspective on film analysis by exploring narrative failures.

House Divided is a citizen's guide for changing the way housing can work in big cities. Using Toronto as a case study, this anthology unpacks the affordability crisis and offers innovative ideas for creating housing for all ages and demographic groups. With charts, maps, data, and policy prescriptions, House Divided poses tough questions about the issue that will make or break the global city of the future.

This book is the core textbook of a quantum science of acting on stage and in life. At a time when the arts and sciences converge more than ever, Perceptual Acting and Directing theory and method (PAD) speaks about a contemporary, tangible metaphysics, fusing theories of quantum physics with mindfulness and the famous Method of the Actors' Studio, in a new harmony. Konstantin Stanislavski had said that the actor of the future, a new actor in the new life, is the one for whom art springs from spiritual intuition. He used the word Supraconscious, indicating to the actor the levels of consciousness he needed to attain. He considered the art of theater as the spiritual path to wholeness. PAD is the new system of translating and decoding, frame by frame, the experience, bringing us in touch with the higher self, by reference to Nietzsche's superhuman and the transcendental Kazantzakis, creating a new transitional space where everything is in motion and evolves in the face of inertia, continuously actualizing that Alma-Quantum Leap of being.

    Heavyweight - Black Boxers and...

In Heavyweight, Jordana Moore Saggese examines images of Black heavyweight boxers to map the visual terrain of racist ideology in the United States, paying particular attention to the intersecting discourses of Blackness, masculinity, and sport. Looking closely at the "shadow archive" of portrayals across fine art, vernacular imagery, and public media at the turn of the twentieth century, she demonstrates how the images of boxers reveal the racist stereotypes implicit in them, many of which continue to structure ideas of Black men today. With a focus on both anonymous fighters and notorious champions, including Jack Johnson, Saggese contends that popular images of these men provided white spectators a way to render themselves experts on Blackness and Black masculinity. These images became the blueprint for white conceptions of the Black male body—existing between fear and fantasy, simultaneously an object of desire and an instrument of violence. Reframing boxing as yet another way whiteness establishes the violent mythology of its supremacy, Saggese highlights the role of imagery in normalizing a culture of anti-Blackness.
