Beschreibung

Companies face several challenges during cloud adoption, with developers and architects needing to migrate legacy applications and build cloud-oriented applications using Azure-based technologies in different environments. A Developer’s Guide to Cloud Apps Using Microsoft Azure helps you learn how to migrate old apps to Azure using the Cloud Adoption Framework and presents use cases, as well as build market-ready secure and reliable applications.
The book begins by introducing you to the benefits of moving legacy apps to the cloud and modernizing existing ones using a set of new technologies and approaches. You’ll then learn how to use technologies and patterns to build cloud-oriented applications. This app development book takes you on a journey through three major services in Azure, namely Azure Container Registry, Azure Container Instances, and Azure Kubernetes Service, which will help you build and deploy an application based on microservices. Finally, you’ll be able to implement continuous integration and deployment in Azure to fully automate the software delivery process, including the build and release processes.
By the end of this book, you’ll be able to perform application migration assessment and planning, select the right Azure services, and create and implement a new cloud-oriented application using Azure containers and orchestrators.

Roman medicine was a blend of practical knowledge, religious beliefs, and influences from earlier civilizations, particularly the Greeks and Etruscans. While early Roman healing methods were deeply rooted in superstition, the expansion of the empire led to the adoption of more systematic medical practices. Over time, Roman medicine evolved into a structured system that combined natural remedies, surgical techniques, and public health initiatives.
Greek influence played a significant role in shaping Roman medical knowledge. Before Rome conquered Greece, healing in the Roman Republic was often associated with household remedies and religious rituals. However, as Greek physicians such as Archagathus and later Galen entered Rome, their advanced knowledge in anatomy, surgery, and pharmacology became widely accepted. Many Roman physicians were either trained by Greek mentors or studied Greek medical texts. Hippocratic principles, which emphasized observation and diagnosis, became foundational in Roman medical education.
Despite the growing reliance on scientific methods, religion and superstition remained integral to Roman healing practices. The Romans believed that diseases could be divine punishments or warnings from the gods. Temples dedicated to deities like Aesculapius, the god of medicine, served as healing centers where the sick sought divine intervention. Priests and healers performed rituals and sacrifices to appease the gods and cure ailments. Additionally, charms, amulets, and incantations were commonly used to ward off illness. Even as medical science progressed, many Romans continued to rely on religious customs for healing.

    Colliding Worlds - How Cosmic...

Some 4.6 billion years ago, a planetary system was born from a disc of gas and dust surrounding a young star.

Specks of dust, pushed into dense clumps, collided, stuck together, and grew. While the gas disappeared, the growing bodies clashed in a final violent phase, leaving a series of planets, and much debris. The planets jostled and moved around as they sought a stable
arrangement, knocking many small fragments out of the system altogether while others formed a distant icy fringe. The massive violent collisions of this time gouged out vast craters from the newborn planets, and sometimes created moons.

Such was the birth of our Solar System. Only recently have scientists begun to find subtle clues of these ancient, violent times. Remarkably, they are still there, if we look carefully at the Earth’s oldest rocks, at Mars and the Moon with their ancient surfaces, and at the
asteroids, which are themselves startlingly varied small worlds. Clues are also to be found in the meteorites that have landed on Earth. From such splinters, from the precious collection of lunar rocks brought back by the Apollo astronauts, and the information
gleaned by spacecraft and the Mars rovers, we are slowly building up a picture of the early days of the planets.

Simone Marchi, a planetary scientist involved with several space missions including Dawn, captures the excitement of these discoveries. We learn of the evidence for an early dramatic rearrangement of the big planets; for a once warm and wet Mars where life
perhaps still lurks today; and for the huge collisions that have shaped our own planet and affected life’s trajectory upon it. For all their destructive power, cosmic collisions have played a critical role in creation.

Without them, we would not exist.

When people think about unidentified flying objects (UFOs), they tend to think of flying discs piloted by gray beings with large heads and enormous eyes. They tend to think that these sightings only started relatively recently and that belief in UFOs is some sort of modern religion brought on, perhaps, by the very justifiable fears of a nuclear age. But a study of the phenomenon quickly reveals that people have been seeing UFOs since the beginning of recorded history and perhaps a lot longer than that.
Naturally, as technological advances and the creation of flying aircraft became realities, the sighting of UFOs increased, as did the interest in potential contact with aliens.  Some of the American investigations of UFOs from the 1940s and 1950s were documented, but nothing exemplifies the debate between those who believe that extraterrestrials visit the Earth and skeptics than the top secret papers that emerged in the 1980s and seemed to prove the existence of a shadowy secret organization known as MJ-12 or Majestic 12. To believers, these papers proved beyond a doubt not only that UFOs were real and of extraterrestrial origin, but also that the federal government had been aware of this since the 1940s and had even managed to recover one or more crashed alien spacecrafts. To skeptics, this notion simply proved how gullible UFO believers were. There was no middle ground - people either believed in the MJ-12 papers completely or laughed at them.
Decades later, it’s finally possible to take a more balanced view of the history of the MJ-12 papers, including where these documents originated from and who created them. It now seems virtually certain that there never was an organization called Majestic 12 and that the papers describing it were faked, but what makes the story truly fascinating is that it now also appears likely that these papers were faked by people actually working within the Air Force or another government agency.

For every learner of Java programming and basic data structures, this book is a useful and comprehensive manual to tap into. Both freshers and those who have some coding experience can rely on its methodical structure "Java and Data Structures: Code Your Future: A Comprehensive Exploration of Java Programming."
The starting point is the most basic syntax of Java, the programming concept that forms the basis of an understanding. After that, the book introduces OOP, mastering such important topics as polymorphism, inheritance, encapsulation, classes, and objects.
Mastering one's proficiency in every concept is done through activities and examples so that readers will easily remember and be able to apply the things learned. In the course of the journey, readers learn more complex subjects such as generics, lambda expressions, Java's Collections Framework, and the very powerful Stream API-all of which make data processing more effective and efficient.
The book proceeds further into important data structures that equip learners with skills needed to conquer tough programming problems. These include arrays, linked lists, stacks, queues, and hash tables. Focusing on real applications, "Java and Data Structures" challenges the reader to use real-world applications that support each subject.
By the end of this book, readers should have learned how to develop scalable, effective Java code and understand the reasoning behind data manipulation and management. Students, potential developers, and experts can all use this book since it takes an integrated approach on how to be a competent and confident Java programmer.
