Beschreibung

This issue, we have 7 original stories (which I believe is our most ever), starting with a science fiction/mystery mashup from H.K. Slade (thanks to Acquiring Editor Michael Bracken), as well as Viviana De Cecco, Kate Bergquist, Maureen Bowden, Ed Teja, and John Gregory Betancourt (me!). Our solve-it-yourself mystery is an original, too.

For our reprints, Acquiring Editor Barb Goffman has a great modern mystery from William Ade, and a pair of mystery classics by Jeffery Farnol and Sinclair Gluck round things out. Good stuff.

'How often have I said to you that when you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth?'

Enthralling, fast-paced and undeniably clever, The Sign of Four is Arthur Conan Doyle's second novel to star the iconic and unparalleled consulting detective, Sherlock Holmes.

When Miss Mary Morstan receives a series of mysterious gifts and a cryptic note, ten years after her father's sudden disappearance, she's at a loss of where to turn. Enter detective Sherlock Holmes and his trusted companion Dr John Watson, determined to solve the case. With nothing but a cryptic clue – a map of a fortress labelled as 'The Sign of Four' – Holmes is drawn into a complicated labyrinth of stolen treasure, secret pacts and profound betrayal. Racing against the clock, he is led to the opium dens of London and a decades-old conspiracy born within colonial India, unveiling a case that tests both his intellect and the heart of right-hand man. Dark and richly atmospheric, The Sign of Four blends deduction and danger into Holmes's most perilous exploits yet.
Arthur Conan Doyle (1859 – 1930) was a Scottish writer and physician. Although he also had an affinity to writing fantasy and science fiction, he is most famous for creating the legendary detective Sherlock Holmes. His crime fiction is still widely read, adapted and studied to this day.

The Adventure of the Bruce-Partington Plans by Arthur Conan Doyle is one of Sherlock Holmes’ most thrilling tales of espionage and intrigue. When top-secret submarine blueprints vanish and a government clerk is found dead on the London Underground, Holmes and Watson are drawn into a high-stakes mystery that reaches the very heart of the British Empire. Set against the fog and iron of Victorian London, this story blends detective brilliance with political suspense as Holmes untangles a web of deceit, betrayal, and murder. Perfect for fans of mystery, intelligence thrillers, and classic detective fiction, this edition captures the full cinematic drama of Conan Doyle’s legendary storytelling.

All Reagan Whelan wants is to live a normal life, graduate highschool and go to college like most 18 year olds. But the sudden tragic death of both of her parents makes that hard to do.
Grieving for her parents and insecure about her future, she is moved across the world to a new country with part of her family that she has never met. But when she arrives she learns that everything she thought her life was before is a lie. She isn't just an 18 year old girl getting ready to start her adult life, she is an over 600 year old Nephilim whose memories were altered to create the illusion of being a typical American child after her parents left the family business for a new start.
Angry and feeling betrayed, with the help of her grandfather and his handsome, young chief of security Aiden Kennedy, Reagan begins to dig into her family history only to find out that she is not just any angelic descendant, she is the offspring of two angelic lines one good and one evil who are currently at war with each other for control over the fate of humanity. How does she decide which side to take? Who is telling her the truth?
Hidden Angel is an exhilarating beginning story of Reagan Whalen by Bronwyn Aisling. If you enjoy following the journey of a female heroine coming into her own, this is for you.

On the night shift, death is scheduled.
When a "natural" passing on Ward C sets off a prickle of doubt, nurse Tessa Markov starts to see a chilling pattern: terminal patients are quietly reassigned to the same celebrated physician minutes before they flatline. Charts vanish. Codes arrive a little too late. Families are persuaded to sign what they don't fully understand. And the only other witness—a soft-spoken night janitor—saw something he shouldn't have.
As Tessa pulls at the threads, the hospital's routines turn into traps. Doors that should open don't. Alarms fail. Colleagues fall silent. Someone inside the system is practicing a perfect kind of murder—one that looks like mercy. And when a loved one lands in that doctor's care, Tessa's fight for the truth becomes a race against the clock.
Paging Doctor Death is a taut, claustrophobic medical thriller about power without oversight and the price of speaking up. If you crave relentless tension, a fearless heroine, and twist-knife reveals set in the fluorescent hush of a midnight ward, this pulse-pounding novel will keep you turning pages long past visiting hours. Read it for the razor-sharp stakes, stay for the final diagnosis you won't see coming.

But my psychic nose says otherwise—this is murder.

Now, with the clock ticking before we reach foreign soil, I'll have to use my aroma mojo to sniff out the truth. It looks like it's up to us to unravel the mystery before the killer gets away with murder.
