Synopsis

King Solomon's Mines is one of the most influential adventure novels of the nineteenth century. The story follows Allan Quatermain, an experienced hunter and guide in Africa, who is hired by Sir Henry Curtis and Captain John Good to help find Curtis's missing brother. He was last seen searching for the legendary mines of King Solomon. The expedition ventures into unknown regions of Africa, facing extreme landscapes, dangerous wildlife, and hostile environments. As they push deeper into unexplored territory, the group encounters a hidden African kingdom ruled by a powerful and tyrannical leader. The travelers become involved in a struggle for power within this kingdom, supporting a rightful heir against the ruler. Their journey is filled with battles, narrow escapes, and discoveries, including the long-sought treasure. Blending exploration, action, and elements of the "lost world" genre, the novel helped define adventure fiction. It established Allan Quatermain as one of the most iconic explorers in literature and remains a classic tale of courage, loyalty, and discovery.

A heartbroken faerie queen in search of an evening of escape awakens the heart of a grumpy wolf warrior who will bring kingdoms to their knees to claim her.

When I was young, I was told that my true love would be a faerie king. I didn’t heed the warning.
I tumbled into love as soon as our eyes first met, unaware that he wasn’t what he seemed.

My king wanted marriage, power, devotion, and a family. He had all but one, and as our kingdom stood upon the precipice of ruin, the weight of failure tore us apart.
Though it was not the war but his betrayal that sent me running to a foreign land.

And straight into the arms of a one-eyed warrior.

The wolf was a weapon of heartless destruction, a rogue without a real name, and nothing I was allowed to want.
A week spent within his city and the walls of his threadbare home was all it took to irrevocably change everything.

    And nothing at all.

For there was no escaping the life I’d once thought I’d cherish forever. My kingdom was dying and my king would soon start searching for his missing queen.
Attempting to keep all I’d found in the heartache he’d caused would only create more.

So I fled from the wolf who hadn’t learned my true identity, and I returned to my kingdom with a silent vow to heal my torn heart. I would try to forgive my faithless husband and accept my bloodstained future.

But those meddlesome fates had other plans.

The warrior I’d left without warning was born a hunter and conditioned to be a monster. An alpha in his own right, he would accept nothing less than what he hungered for.
Even if the battle of his life delivered our hearts to their doom and our kingdoms to their knees.

One step away from danger at all times, he's currently hiding from the Russian Mob and furious industrialists, each with valid reasons for hunting him.

But, when Richard Evans, a onetime mentor and family friend is found dead in Deptford beside the last known resting place of Christopher Marlowe, Damian is sent a message from beyond the grave that sends him on a treasure hunt across England; one that links Elizabethan occultists, secret societies, William Shakespeare, Richard III, alchemical architects, Queen Elizabeth I and the War of the Roses, all leading back to a mythical Plantagenet Gold, brought back from the Crusades by Richard the Lionheart, hidden by the Knights Templar, and believed to be worth trillions in today's money.

But Damian isn't the only one hunting the treasure. Forced on the run with SO.14 agent Katherine Turner, a mysterious woman with her own connection to Richard, Damian finds himself hunted by alt-right poster boy billionaire Martin Shrewsbury, as the cryptic clues take them from historical landmarks to the most dangerous of places, and Damian learns the truth about his parents death, years earlier...

The detective story was more or less invented by Edgar Allen Poe, but he more or less lost interest with the genre and moved on, with the next leading practitioner being Arthur Conan Doyle with his Sherlock Holmes tales. It was about thirty-three years before Agatha Christie entered the detective mystery field, and she wound up becoming one of the most well-known English authors of the twentieth century. Her success was so extraordinary she became the bestselling novelist of all time, with only the Bible and Shakespeare exceeding her sales.
Her accomplishments often came in unusual fashion, as she would be walking down a street and a plot idea would come to her. All this had begun when she had a poem published in a local London newspaper when she was only four years old. Remarkable, yes, but the extremely early beginning led to her tremendous success. She finally created a play, The Mousetrap, that began in 1952 and had more than 27,000 performances before being finally halted in mid-March, 2020 by the COVID-19 pandemic. For now, let’s listen to one of her creations for the infamous Belgian detective/investigator Hercule Poirot. You can rest assured we’ll find out “whodunnit.”
