Beschreibung

"I am a traveler in time. I am a witness to the sunset of mankind."

An unnamed Victorian scientist, known only as the Time Traveller, reveals to his skeptical dinner guests a machine capable of traversing the fourth dimension. He hurls himself into the distant future, arriving in the year 802,701. Expecting a pinnacle of human achievement, he finds instead the Eloi—small, beautiful, and fragile creatures living in a state of idle decadence. But the paradise is an illusion. Beneath the surface dwell the Morlocks—monstrous, subterranean hunters who tend to the Eloi like cattle. Wells' masterpiece is a gripping adventure that serves as a chilling warning about the ultimate consequences of class division and biological evolution.

The Evolution of Inequality: Wells uses the Eloi and the Morlocks to represent the final, biological divergence of the Victorian class system. The "Capitalist" class has evolved into the helpless, surface-dwelling Eloi, while the "Working" class has become the predatory, underground Morlocks. This startling use of Social Darwinism suggests that without social justice, humanity is doomed to a predatory split.

A Vision of the Cosmic End: Beyond the conflict of the two races, the Time Traveller journeys even further into the future—to the very end of the world. He witnesses a dying Earth under a bloated, red sun, where the last flickers of life are alien and unrecognizable. It is one of the most haunting and influential sequences in all of science fiction, portraying a universe that is vast, indifferent, and eventually silent.

Step into the fourth dimension. Purchase "The Time Machine" today and witness the ultimate destiny of our species.

Okay, so officially, I’ve resigned from the Dark Witch Court as one of the witches who clean up paranormal problems no one else wants to handle. Specifically, I deal with the demons that escape from the Veil—the invisible layer that protects our world from the Netherworld.
But when I’m called in to investigate a series of human deaths at a local New York restaurant while between jobs, I’m in no position to turn down the cash. So, I unofficially take the gig.
I quickly discover there’s a new player in town—one who’s been gone for hundreds of years and is now killing innocents with a magical virus.
I hate to admit it, but even as badass as I am, I’m seriously out-magicked. If I can’t find the culprits behind the magical virus, more innocent people will die. It’s time for me to put on my big girl pants and show the Court just what kind of Dark witch I am—a very bad one.

Wreck Off Triton by Alfred Coppel - His plans were thorough. Every risk had been closely considered. Now Ron Carnavon, ruthless convict, was ready to loot the wrecked spaceship of its sapphire treasure, and thrust his warped power around the entire, antagonistic EMV triangle.
Ron Carnavon had been the skipper of the late Thunderbird, and it was common knowledge in every port of the EMV triangle that he had scuttled her. There was a price on his head, and the High Space Guard was combing the spacelanes for him—and for the Thunderbird. For the Thunderbird was a treasure ship.
But Carnavon was a cautious man and no fool, for all that he'd committed barratry. He left the Thunderbird in a Trojan orbit a million miles off Triton, ruptured and spilling corpses into space. He took a spaceboat and jetted sunward to the Holcomb Foundation Outpost on Oberon. Then he stowed away on the mail ship to Canalopolis, still carrying the chart that showed the Thunderbird's position. In the Canal City, Carnavon evaded the lax Guard cordons and found himself a renegade Martian hypnosurgeon to change his face and fingerprints.
From then on it was easy. Across Syrtis Major by sand-ski to Marsport posing as a prospector. And from Marsport down the Grand Canal to the spaceman's boneyard at Yakki. It was there that he met and hired Pop Wills and the Carefree.
Ron Carnavon acted with characteristic caution when he chose Pop and the Carefree to do the ghoul work on the ship he had murdered. Pop's ship was a rusty bucket, but well enough fixed to reach Triton where the Thunderbird's corpse orbited, her vault heavy with Plutonian sapphires. And Pop needed work badly. He was almost too broke to outfit his ship for the flight.
