The Covenant of Water is a novel by Abraham Verghese, the author of Cutting for Stone. It follows three generations of a family in Kerala, South India, who suffer from a peculiar affliction: at least one person dies by drowning. At the turn of the century, a twelve-year-old girl is sent by boat to her wedding, where she will meet her forty-year-old husband for the first time. The novel is a hymn to progress in medicine and human understanding, and a testament to the difficulties undergone by past generations for the sake of those alive today.

Innumerable books have been written about Buddhism, but most of these are far too exhaustive, too specialized, or too scholarly to be of much practical help to the busy lay Buddhist in search of concise guidance. A short, clear, and simple handbook on how to live a proper Buddhist lay life was therefore a much felt need. The present essay attempts to fill that gap by providing exactly what its title offers: A
    Simple Guide to Life.

For easy reference the essay has been divided into short, convenient sections. The first section is theoretical in emphasis. It attempts to fix in the reader’s mind the essential principles of the Buddha’s teaching, without complicated and sophisticated explanations. The principles discussed here should serve as a clear-cut philosophy of life, a framework which illuminates the meaning and purpose of the Buddhist life. These principles will enable the lay Buddhist to understand his or her place in the larger scheme of things, to order priorities, and to devise a proper way to achieve them. The lack of a clear philosophy of life, so widespread today, is largely responsible for the steady decline in ethical standards, both individually and socially,...in the world as a whole.

Most of my books on Aliens and UFOs are about evidence of them existing on Earth. However, there are also many unusual sightings in space which is the subject of this book. These sightings cover the following locations:UFOs flying around the International Space StationBases and UFOs on the MoonStrange sightings on Mars taken by our Martian rovers. In deep space elsewhere in the Solar SystemThese pictures may or may not be real alien life or UFO technologies, but they are fascinating none the less. Some of the sightings like the face in Cydonia are just a result of our natural abilities to see living forms in many types of pictures. But some may turn out to be real phenomena.Certainly, some of these sightings can’t be anything other than real UFOs.If you want to learn about strange sightings in the Solar System outside of Earth, then this book is for you.

A wonderfully fresh and frank guide to why and how to write personal stories that will heal, liberate, inspire—and entertain—writers, readers, and listeners

Writing has been medicine for Nancy Slonim Aronie. At nine months old, her son Dan was diagnosed with diabetes. Then, at twenty-two, he was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. During the years she and her husband took care of Dan, and when he died at age thirty-eight, Aronie could not find the book she needed. So she wrote her memoir.

In teaching memoir writing, Aronie has found that everyone has a story to tell and that telling it is important. Sharing "this is who I am, these are the things that shaped me, this is where I am now" allows a kind of magic and healing to happen. Over decades of writing and teaching, Aronie has created a set of prompts, directions, and examples that she shares in Memoir as Medicine. Listeners will learn how to write through where they have been and into deep understanding, profound healing, and even unexpected joy.

This book consists of 2 titles, which are the following:Title 1: Is your child gifted? And how do you know that?In this comprehensive guide, you will learn more about common qualities of gifted children, and more specifically, the symptoms of such a distinct brain. Through the tips you will be given, you will be able to detect those attributes even in the earlier years, so that you can be prepared for the future. People have been using the term “gifted” in different ways, and it’s important to know what the differences are of those terms. You will learn more about those terms and their meanings.Additionally, this guide covers topics that relate to considering tests for giftedness, the advantages of specific classes in schools and gifted programs, and general tips for higher academic achievements. In short, this is a guide that can really help you along the path of discovery. Your child’s talents and skills can become a greater opportunity by detecting them and adjusting your educational choices according to them.Title 2: Giftedness can be a blessing or a struggle. The stimulation of the senses is different in a gifted child. They experience life, impulses and emotions differently. But there are ways to play into those talents and provoke curiosity and fascination in preschoolers and older children. This book covers some of those suggestions.Sometimes, parents think high grades is a good thing, and it can be. But did you know that this is not always the case? Did you know that some gifted children actually underachieve for various reasons? And then comes the big question: Should you tell a child that he or she is gifted? What are the pros and cons of doing so? Don’t remain in the dark. The achievements of gifted students are the consequences of their psyche, but it’s a vulnerable process to stimulate that intelligence in the right way. To do so, this book can help you along the way.

Winner of the William Foote Whyte and Kathleen King Whyte Book Prize from the Rutgers Institute for the Study of Employee Ownership and Profit Sharing

Employee ownership creates stronger companies, helps workers build wealth, and fosters a fairer, more stable society. In this book, two leading experts show how it works-and how it can be greatly expanded.

Why are wages stagnant and wealth inequality increasing? One factor has inexplicably been left out: who owns the companies that drive the economy. Ownership gives people a claim to the fruits of free enterprise. Employee ownership gives workers-the people who have a stake in the company-a fair chance to benefit from their labors.

In three simple parts, Corey Rosen and John Case create a powerful argument for why employee ownership is the answer to capitalism's crisis and how to implement it:

    1.	What's wrong with what we have-The authors explain why companies usually end up being sold off to investors and the often-horrific consequences that result for workers, communities, and the environment.
    2.	How can we change things?-This section shows how overlooking ownership limits attempts to reform capitalism and why employee ownership is a realistic and practical way to save capitalism from its own excesses.
    3.	Reinventing capitalism for the 21st century-This section describes how employee ownership has been done, is being done, and can be expanded and gives examples of companies of all sizes and sectors.
