Lucinda Williams' memoir Don't Tell Anybody the Secrets I Told You is an evocative reflection on an extraordinary woman's life journey. It chronicles her traumatic childhood in the Deep South, her years of being overlooked in the music industry, and the stories that inspired her enduring songs. Williams reveals the inspirations for her unforgettable lyrics, including doomed love affairs with "poets on motorcycles" and the gothic southern landscapes of her youth. She faced record companies who told her her music was not "finished," but her fighting spirit persevered, leading to a hard-won success that spans seventeen Grammy nominations.

Students and teachers alike face a dilemma: Why think deeply when we can just take a shortcut by googling something? Why read an article when we can learn from a social media headline? If, as educators, we want to encourage our students to value thoughtfulness and to embrace the effort it takes to reach deep understandings, we must model that behavior ourselves. In Never Stop Asking, author Dr. Nathan Lang-Raad shows K-12 teachers how human brains like to take mental shortcuts, known as heuristics, that allow the brain to save energy and perform more efficiently. These heuristics, however, can lead to illogical thinking, cognitive biases, and fallacies that can hinder critical thinking.

With this teacher's must-have guide, you'll: learn about common psychological shortcuts and biases that hinder students and teachers alike; discover the logic and the science behind critical thinking and why it leads to better outcomes; gain strategies to bring critical thinking into the classroom and help students build patience, discipline, and skill; and acknowledge and embrace the digital age in your teaching—without falling victim to its downsides.

This is an engaging and important book for K-12 teachers and instructional coaches. Teacher training programs can also be enhanced by the practical wisdom and easy-to-implement strategies included.

Learn more about the history of those countries. The topics addressed will be the following:
The Khmer Empire--Historians describe Cambodia as the Khmer State or the Angkorian Empire (Khmer:) from the 9th century to the 15th century, when it was a Hindu/Buddhist empire in Southeast Asia. The empire, which developed from the old societies of Funan and Chenla, governed and/or "vassalized" the majority of mainland Southeast Asia and parts of Southern China, covering from the suggestion of the Indochinese Peninsula northward to modern-day Yunnan province in China, and from Vietnam westward to Myanmar. The Khmer Empire was greater at its peak than the Byzantine Empire (Eastern Roman Empire) that existed at the exact same period.
The Siamese-- Siam was just a much different name for what's now referred to as Thailand. The Siamese are the people who live there, though they're never ever called as such any longer.
Thailand is a fascinating country, with its own culinary arts, culture, history, royalty, infrastructure, and influence on the world. To learn more about these “Thai” people before they were called Thai, when they were Siamese, is to learn about those people’s roots.

A land of almost 3 million square miles has lain since time immemorial on the southern flank of the planet, so isolated that it remained entirely outside of European knowledge until 1770. However, the first human footprints on this vast territory were felt 70,000 years earlier, as people began to cross the periodic land bridges and the short sea crossings from Southeast Asia.
The history of the indigenous inhabitants of Australia, known in contemporary anthropology as the “Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people of Australia,” is a complex and continually evolving field of study, and it has been colored by politics. For generations after the arrival of whites in Australia, the Aboriginal people were disregarded and marginalized, largely because they offered little in the way of a labor resource, and they occupied land required for European settlement.
At the same time, it is a misconception that indigenous Australians meekly accepted the invasion of their country by the British, for they did not. They certainly resisted, but as far as colonial wars during that era went, the frontier conflicts of Australia did not warrant a great deal of attention. Indigenous Australians were hardly a warlike people, and without central organization, or political cohesion beyond scattered family groups, they succumbed to the orchestrated advance of white settlement with passionate, but futile resistance. In many instances, aggressive clashes between the two groups simply gave the white colonists reasonable cause to inflict a style of genocide on the Aborigines that stood in the way of progress.
