Ever wonder why poverty exists and how we could get rid of it? Here's your answer.
Darryl Finkton, Jr. is a hedge fund manager turned community organizer. Raised in poverty, Darryl went on to graduate from Harvard College and the University of Oxford, where he studied as a Rhodes Scholar. In “End Poverty. Make Trillions.” Darryl shares how he rose from rags to riches, and how we can ensure everyone has an opportunity to generate wealth.
A Surprisingly Simple Plan for Ending Poverty–and Making Trillions of Dollars for Ourselves While We Do It
Poverty costs the United States more than a trillion dollars a year for myriad complex reasons. Ending it would result in joy that is hard to quantify. Yet for all the complexities involved, the “how” of it all–the way to escape national suffering and decline and start off toward a future of organic, resilient national growth–is simple.
    It’s SO SIMPLE.
To have lives of dignity and purpose and contribute meaningfully to our capitalist economy, America’s poor people do not need the rest of us to feed or shelter them. They don’t need us to derail our lives to take care of them or even think about them all that much.
    They need MONEY.

    Punic Wars - Events and...

The Punic Wars were a series of three major conflicts fought between the Roman Republic and the ancient city-state of Carthage from 264 BC to 146 BC. These wars were pivotal in shaping the balance of power in the ancient Mediterranean, ultimately resulting in the complete destruction of Carthage and the rise of Rome as the dominant power in the region.
The first war, known as the First Punic War, began in 264 BC, centered around the strategic island of Sicily. According to the Greek historian Polybius, it was “the longest and most bitterly waged battle in history.” The conflict ignited when Rome’s growing imperial ambitions clashed with Carthage’s established control over the island. Carthage, a formidable maritime power with a vast network of colonies across the western Mediterranean, saw Sicily as vital to its prosperity. Rome, a land-based power with a strong army but a comparatively weak navy, sought to challenge Carthage’s dominance at sea. Over the course of the war, naval engagements dominated, and the conflict resulted in significant losses for both sides. Despite initial setbacks, Rome ultimately prevailed after 23 years of intense fighting, inflicting severe losses on the Carthaginian fleet and forcing Carthage to pay massive reparations. The island of Sicily became Rome’s first province, marking a significant step in the Republic’s expansion. The end of the First Punic War also saw the outbreak of the Mercenary War within Carthage’s borders, a revolt by Carthaginian soldiers who had not been paid, further weakening the empire.

    Thursday, October 12, 1967.
Marine Lance Corporal Kevin Cahill stepped onto a trail deep in the remote Hai Lang National Forest of South Vietnam. Following Cahill were the 166 Marines of Charlie Company, First Battalion, First Marines, First Marine Division. Confident, well armed and ready to fight, their mission was to locate and annihilate any North Vietnamese Army forces they could find.
Cahill, a sharp and experienced point man, knew that taking the well-worn and ominous trail was a bad idea, but an order was an order and he led Charlie Company forward. It was a decision that would cost the 19-year-old his life. As he took a step to his left, toward a small knoll, Cahill walked right into the blast of a machine gun and the column of men he led suddenly faced decimating grenade and small- arms fire.
Rather than Charlie Company finding the enemy, the NVA, over two thousand men strong, had found Charlie Company. Surrounded, outnumbered, out-gunned, and quickly running out of ammunition, the Marines now faced annihilation and hell on earth under the jungle canopy.
Would the men of Charlie Company survive? How could they hope to beat back a vastly superior enemy force set on their complete destruction? Who would ever live to tell the tale of the “Lions of Medina”?
