The Republic (Greek: Politeia) is a Socratic dialogue, written by Plato around 380 BC, concerning the definition of (justice), the order and character of the just city-state and the just man, reason by which ancient readers used the name On Justice as an alternative title (not to be confused with the spurious dialogue also titled On Justice). The dramatic date of the dialogue has been much debated and though it must take place some time during the Peloponnesian War, "there would be jarring anachronisms if any of the candidate specific dates between 432 and 404 were assigned". It is Plato's best-known work and has proven to be one of the most intellectually and historically influential works of philosophy and political theory. In it, Socrates along with various Athenians and foreigners discuss the meaning of justice and examine whether or not the just man is happier than the unjust man by considering a series of different cities coming into existence "in speech", culminating in a city (Kallipolis) ruled by philosopher-kings; and by examining the nature of existing regimes. The participants also discuss the theory of forms, the immortality of the soul, and the roles of the philosopher and of poetry in society. Short Summary (Epilogue): X.1—X.8. 595a—608b. Rejection of Mimetic Art X.9—X.11. 608c—612a. Immortality of the Soul X.12. 612a—613e. Rewards of Justice in Life X.13—X.16. 613e—621d. Judgment of the Dead The paradigm of the city — the idea of the Good, the Agathon — has manifold historical embodiments, undertaken by those who have seen the Agathon, and are ordered via the vision. The centre piece of the Republic, Part II, nos. 2–3, discusses the rule of the philosopher, and the vision of the Agathon with the allegory of the cave, which is clarified in the theory of forms. The centre piece is preceded and followed by the discussion of the means that will secure a well-ordered polis (City). Part II, no. 1, concerns marriage, the community of people and goods for the Guardians, and the restraints on warfare among the Hellenes. It describes a partially communistic polis. Part II, no. 4, deals with the philosophical education of the rulers who will preserve the order and character of the city-state. In Part II, the Embodiment of the Idea, is preceded by the establishment of the economic and social orders of a polis (Part I), followed by an analysis (Part III) of the decline the order must traverse. The three parts compose the main body of the dialogues, with their discussions of the "paradigm", its embodiment, its genesis, and its decline. The Introduction and the Conclusion are the frame for the body of the Republic. The discussion of right order is occasioned by the questions: "Is Justice better than Injustice?" and "Will an Unjust man fare better than a Just man?" The introductory question is balanced by the concluding answer: "Justice is preferable to Injustice". In turn, the foregoing are framed with the Prologue (Book I) and the Epilogue (Book X). The prologue is a short dialogue about the common public doxai (opinions) about "Justice". Based upon faith, and not reason, the Epilogue describes the new arts and the immortality of the soul.

We are all patient with beginners, extending compassionate grace to anyone learning a new skill. But what about the woman just beginning her marriage journey? What about the woman, ten years in, who still wishes she had a marriage manual to help make sense of challenges she never anticipated?
Discover a fresh marriage manual that offers practical wisdom illustrated through the author’s personal stories and experiences over the course of her four decade marriage. Each chapter is uniquely devoted to one of the critical characteristics the author deems essential to a happy marriage. Whether 12 weeks or 12 years in, this book extends understanding and hope to those still learning the ins and outs of marriage: those whom the author calls–beginner wives.
    From the Introduction:
“I’ll let you in on a little secret: Other women don’t have perfect husbands; they’ve simply learned how to enjoy the husbands they have! In this book I share what worked for me, where I missed the mark (so you don’t have to), and how establishing and sharing a core set of values with my husband not only influenced my early years of becoming a wife, but also how I balanced that role with being a mother of six children. I’ve devoted each chapter to the critical characteristics that I’ve found to be essential to a happy marriage. And the best part is that each of these characteristics is available to you if you’re willing to do the work.
"If you’re a woman who wants to prepare for a marriage she doesn’t have yet, and then carry the honeymoon phase through to the very end, this book is for you. If you’re a woman looking to thrive in your marriage, and gain the tools to consistently support and elevate each other through all of life’s seasons, this book is for you. If you're a woman who wants to be intentional about actually enjoying — not resenting — your husband and your marriage, then this book is for you. Welcome!”

    Socially Psyched: A Short Book...

This is a collection of what I feel are some of the most important social/cognitive psychology experiments, studies, demonstrations, biases, and systematic reviews, presented in an entertaining way while adhering to academic standards.

I have always been fascinated by how our behaviors, cognition (thoughts), and affect (how we feel) are greatly dependent upon our social environment and our imperfect brains. I find it fascinating--perhaps because I am an American who was raised in the typical American cultural environment where I learned that what we consider "the self" consists of some magic "soul" that defines who we are—our behaviors (including choices and decisions), our cognition (including thoughts and beliefs), and our feelings. This could not be further from the truth. "We" are a result of an often incomprehensible interaction between biology and environment where some traits are more greatly influenced by social factors than others. Who we are is a result of social forces—the influence of other people and the human-created systems in which we operate. We can ignore this fact, maintain an illusion of control, or face reality and learn how to navigate this world and come out on top—personally, professionally, and financially. I choose the latter.

My name is Bo Bennett, and I hold a PhD in social psychology with a passion for this subject. While this book is not about me, my interpretations and commentary do make up most of the sections of each entry based on the content written by the original authors of the research or other sources—each of which will be cited when used.
    Enjoy this short book!
