Synopsis

When Jacob and his parents move to a mansion in the countryside, Jacob is not surprised to find so many ghosts. Of course there would be ghosts in such a big, old place!

But why are they trapped on Earth, and what is their reason for haunting? And who are the mysterious twins that appear on the same date every year? Jacob doesn’t mind sharing his room with Andrew, young master of Neville Mansion; even though Andrew died a hundred years ago, he still has a lively sense of humour.

Jacob's parents can't see the ghosts, so it's up to Jacob to prevent the third-floor ghost frightening his mother when she wants to redecorate, and help the old lady with white hair to find her lost necklace. But what is the connection between Andrew's death and the restless ghosts?

Beside Still Waters by Robert Sheckley - When people talk about getting away from it all, they are usually thinking about our great open spaces out west. But to science fiction writers, that would be practically in the heart of Times Square. When a man of the future wants solitude he picks a slab of rock floating in space four light years west of Andromeda. Here is a gentle little story about a man who sought the solitude of such a location. And who did he take along for company? None other than Charles the robot.

    North Dakota, 1905
After fleeing persecution in the Russian Empire, eleven-year-old Shoshana and her
family, Jewish immigrants, start a new life on the prairie. Shoshana takes fierce joy
in the wild beauty of the plains and the thrill of forging a new, American identity.
But it’s not as simple for her older sister, Libke, who misses their Ukrainian village
and doesn’t learn English as quickly or make friends as easily.
Desperate to fit in, Shoshana finds herself hiding her Jewish identity in the face of
prejudice, just as Libke insists they preserve it. For the first time, Shoshana is at
odds with her beloved sister, and has to look deep inside herself to realize that
her family’s difference is their greatest strength. By listening to the music that’s
lived in her heart all along, Shoshana finds new meaning in the Jewish expression
all beginnings are difficult, as well as in the resilience and traditions her people
have brought all the way to the North Dakota prairie.
