Beschreibung

Pink tutus, magic, sarcasm, amulets and bushfires: this is suburban fantasy in Australia.

Life is never quite what it seems, even without the lost family heritage delivered to Judith and Belinda. Judith wants an ordinary life... mostly. If Belinda weren't Judith's sister, and if it wasn't for bushfires and bigots, Belinda's life would be perfectly ordinary. Judith will tell you so; you don't even have to ask.

Belinda's friend Rhonda has a superpower. Each time she sees the future or reveals deep secrets, seekers for the 'New Nostradamus' come closer to destroying her life. Her hold on normalcy is very fragile; so is her hold on safety.

Judith and Rhonda are haunted, Judith by her past and Rhonda by her gift. Will they ever come into the sunshine and find happiness?

Winston Churchill is remembered as one of history’s most formidable leaders, a man whose unwavering resolve and stirring oratory inspired a beleaguered nation to withstand its darkest hour. Rising to prominence during one of humanity’s most perilous times, Churchill’s leadership during World War II not only shaped the fate of Britain but left an indelible mark on the global landscape. His life and career encapsulate the qualities of resilience, vision, and adaptability that are crucial during moments of profound crisis.

Born into an aristocratic family in 1874, Churchill's early life was one of privilege, yet his path to greatness was anything but guaranteed. Despite academic struggles and initial failures, he demonstrated remarkable tenacity, carving out a career as a soldier, journalist, and eventually a politician. His varied experiences—whether charging on horseback in colonial campaigns or reporting from the frontlines—imbued him with a deep understanding of courage and strategy, traits that would serve him well in the years to come.

Churchill’s rise to the role of wartime Prime Minister was far from linear. By the late 1930s, his political career seemed to be in decline. His outspoken criticism of appeasement policies and his relentless warnings about Adolf Hitler’s ambitions rendered him an isolated figure, often dismissed as a relic of an earlier age. Yet, as Europe hurtled toward war, Churchill’s foresight and defiance became assets too valuable to ignore. In 1940, as Nazi Germany’s forces swept across the continent, Churchill was called upon to lead.

'From incredible highs to devastating lows, the championship battles and mental turmoil, Derby winners and cancer heartbreak, Pat has left more than a legacy. Read this and you will agree with me – he is iconic.' RUBY WALSH
'Pat tells his story with the same honesty and humility that defined him as a person. He was a remarkable man and his is a compelling story.' SIR ANTHONY MCCOY
'Pat was an amazing man, a man of dignity who went about life with a smile on his face. He is an example to all of us.' FRANKIE DETTORI
'Inspiring, heart-breaking and unforgettable.' BROUGH SCOTT
Pat Smullen was one of the greatest Irish jockeys ever. In a career laden with success, his position as one of the country's best ever flat jockeys was long established. And yet, despite being a nine-time champion jockey, his humility defined him.
It was this strength of character that sustained him when, in March 2018, Pat was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. There was never any self-pity. He just dealt with it. And more than that, he brought it centre stage: raising funds and awareness, and channelling his energies into helping others. Pat was a champion in all aspects of life, no matter what setbacks were thrown at him. Tragically, his life was cut short far too early in September 2020.
Written in the months before his death, with the assistance of Donn McClean and completed by Pat's wife, Frances Crowley, Champion is the inspirational story of the jockey whose legacy lives on.

This book is about twenty-one days, and sixty years. A motorcycle ride down the spine of Appalachia, with a little banjo  and big myth for company, to play and sing at the graves of dead banjo heroes. About making a life about making work. This book is about outsiders. Interlopers. Class migrants. Death. Awakening. Creative Process. Growth through risk-taking. It’s a book about ghosts. Music. Writing. Not writing. What’s this book not about? “Finding myself.” I know who I am.
Steven Sherrill is a high school dropout, a nearly retired professor, a family man, a ne'er-do-well banjo player, a motorcyclist, an aquarist, a sonic/video muckraker, and a novelist with five books in the world, one of which (The Minotaur Takes a Cigarette Break) is a cult classic.

    Troublemaker - A Memoir of...

    Lisa Cornwell, Tucker Booth,...

Lisa Cornwell never shied away from standing up to bullies. When she was a freshman in college, she saw a man hit a woman in the face with a closed fist while a paralyzed crowd stood by and watched. Seconds later, she took matters into her own hands—with a 3-iron from her golf bag.

This impulse crystallized years later when Cornwell publicly spoke out against the misogynistic culture she and others experienced at the hands of their employer, Golf Channel/NBCUniversal. Throughout her time at the network, she challenged the toxic environment and was quickly branded a "troublemaker"—a label that often accompanies women who refuse to play by an antiquated set of rules.

In this authentic and unreserved memoir, which includes a powerful foreword from Hillary Rodham Clinton, Cornwell takes listeners inside the boys' club of sports media and reveals the way powerful corporations cover up wrongdoings. For her, what began with retaliation exploded into a public smear campaign and, ultimately, her dismissal. She also shares the unlikely yet formative touchstones of her life: a close friendship with Tiger Woods when both were nationally ranked junior golfers; her cousin, Bill Clinton, being elected President of the United States; and the private demons she battled as a young adult that almost cost her everything.

Note: Listeners can access the foreword by Hillary Rodham Clinton in the bonus PDF accompanying this audiobook.
