Beschreibung

George Washington Cable was an American author and reformer, noted for his stories dealing with Creole life in his native New Orleans. His early novels sought to recapture the picturesque times of the old French-Spanish city, while employing a realism that was new to Southern fiction. His works are characterised by freshness and charm, with a force of moral conviction. Although Cable was the son of slaveholders and fought in the Confederate cavalry, he saw slavery and attempts to deny freedmen full public rights as moral wrongs. He produced powerful essays and lectures, urging the cause of black rights in the face of violent abuse in the Southern press. Now regarded as the most important Southern writer of the late nineteenth century, Cable and his work would pave the way for the achievements of William Faulkner. For the first time in publishing history, this eBook presents Cable’s complete works, with numerous illustrations, rare texts, informative introductions and the usual Delphi bonus material. Never make a bargain with one of the Fae.
It’s a rule everyone knows…and yet it’s one Alice’s family seems to ignore. After her brother loses their entire family fortune in a wager he cannot afford, Alice ventures into the Rose Briar Woods to make a deal with the formidable Fae marquis who now owns her family’s estate—a portrait in exchange for her brother’s freedom.
But instead of Lord Ambrose, the young artist meets a mysterious masked man who saves her when her carriage is attacked by goblins. Even though he warns her to leave the woods, Alice finds herself working in the marquis’s manor.
Right away, Alice realizes Lord Ambrose is not what she expects. He’s kind when the Fae are supposed to be cold, and he’s generous even though he wants to be rid of her. And more, he’s hiding a painful past—one that seems to have something to do with Alice herself.
Soon, Alice is torn between the handsome marquis and the dashing masked bandit who continues to visit her in the evenings, but her heart tells her something is amiss.
Because it seems very likely the two men Alice is taken with just might be the same man…
The Masked Fae is a breathtaking fantasy romance with a touch of angst and plenty of chemistry. Each book in the series is a complete story, and although it’s best to read them in order, there are no cliffhangers.

In the quiet village of Steynham St Michael there is an anonymous letter writer at work, jabbing and stabbing at the past's Achilles' heels of many of the upright citizens living there.
After one resident is driven to extreme measures to escape exposure, another is driven to murder.
In the village cards club, which meets once a week, tongues begin to wag, not only about the identities of the murderer and the poison pen letter-writer, but also about who exactly has received a letter.
There are also changes afoot at Market Darley Police Headquarters, as the national economy dictates that it accepts the straitened circumstances planned for it, and complies with recommendations for change.
And before any of this even happens, Harry Falconer drifts up from unconsciousness to find himself in complete darkness and barely able to move, the only sound being that of someone moaning in pain...
