    O. Henry (William Sydney Porter) is a great American writer. His stories are usually humorous with surprising endings. He was born in 1862 in Greensboro. The first wife Athol Estes died early. O. Henry spent several years in prison, where wrote his first story. In 1902 he moves to New-York and started writing for magazines. His first book was "Cabbages and Kings" published in 1904. Also famous O' Henry's storybooks: "The Four Million", "The Trimmed Lamp", "The Voice of the City" etc. The writer had problems with alcohol and suffered from cirrhosis and diabetes. He died in 1910. Original plot, unexpected ending, sarcastic humor - that's what features O. Henry's works. The Vitagraphoscope is a final story from "Cabbages and Kings", inspired by his travelling to Honduras. This is a short note describing different themes. Enjoy reading O. Calcutta is the central character in each of the three stories in this book. As all Bengalis will tell you, even when the city stands quietly in the corner, not saying a word, her presence may be deeply felt by those close to her. The House and Other Stories is also about the many persons we encounter in the everyday. These are the people we pass by without a second thought. Who are these people? What stories lie locked up in each of them? Will they ever be told? Like magic, one question leads to another and soon, they no longer appear anonymous; they come alive. It is as if an entirely new world has been conjured before our eyes. And we are enchanted by the stories that have lain hidden from us for so long. Even if the stories emerge at times from the realm of the dead.

The Metamorphosis (German: Die Verwandlung, also sometimes translated as The Transformation) is a novella by Franz Kafka, first published in 1915. It has been cited as one of the seminal works of fiction of the 20th century and is studied in colleges and universities across the Western world. The story begins with a traveling salesman, Gregor Samsa, waking to find himself transformed (metamorphosed) into a large, monstrous insect-like creature. The cause of Samsa's transformation is never revealed, and Kafka never did give an explanation. The rest of Kafka's novella deals with Gregor's attempts to adjust to his new condition as he deals with being burdensome to his parents and sister, who are repulsed by the horrible, verminous creature Gregor has become. - Summary by Wikipedia
