Synopsis

When a remote farm is visited by a killer, Chief Superintendent Littlejohn must uncover the secrets of a tight-lipped clan in this British mystery.

When police investigate a fire at Harry Quill’s desolate farm, they find the owner dead and his invalid wife unconscious. Mrs. Quill had apparently started the fire as a call for help. Already investigating a criminal gang raiding isolated farms, Littlejohn and Inspector Cromwell are on the case. But the gang was just arrested in Northern Scotland. Surely, they cannot be involved?

The Quill family is old and widespread, a closed shop to all except its own, who keep its many secrets among themselves. They are headed by Aunt Clara, a formidable matron who rules by fear. To get to the truth of who killed Harry, Littlejohn must engage in a battle of wits with Claraand her crafty coven of lawyers.

Book 1 in the brand-new Twin Lights series from the beloved author of The Sisterhood!

In a fresh, new series for fans of Nora Roberts, Danielle Steel, and Janet Evanovich, #1 New York Times bestselling author Fern Michaels introduces siblings Madison and Lincoln Taylor, whose Jersey Shore inheritance plunges them into a world of mystery and mayhem …

Growing up, Madison Taylor and her younger brother Lincoln lived in privilege, but their sheltered existence abruptly ended when their father was arrested for fraud and the family assets were seized. Since then, Madison has carved out a new path, studying fashion and working her way up to editor in chief of La Femme magazine, while Lincoln teaches wealth management at a small college outside the city. Both have separated themselves from their family and their past—until an unexpected bequest arrives from their late uncle.

Madison and Lincoln are now the new co-owners of a marina at Smugglers Cove on the Navesink river. Instead of a fabulous, Hamptons-style property, Smugglers Cove offers little beyond a dilapidated dock, a few gas pumps, and a handful of clam boats. Madison’s plan to sell the property goes awry when a dead body is found floating under their dock and transforms their new inheritance into a crime scene.

Suddenly, Madison is swapping her city-girl wardrobe for cargo pants and flannel shirts, while she and Lincoln receive a crash course in small-town Jersey shore life, complete with quirky characters, pirate legends, and a mysterious treasure map. They’re discovering more about themselves and each other every day, but with a mystery to solve, and big decisions to make, these are lessons they’ll need to learn fast …

International resort developer Nigel Goodwin has traveled all the way from London, England, to Misty Murphy's little corner of North Carolina, and bought out the Mountaintop Lodge for the week prior to Christmas. Their intention? To pitch an exclusive new resort concept to wealthy American investors.

But locals are at odds over the idea, and when a group comes to the lodge to express their worries to Mr. Goodwin and the potential investors, a blizzard hits Beech Mountain. Like the weather outside, things quickly get frosty, and Misty has to call local police to intervene. Handyman Rocky Crowder plows the lodge's drive and, in an attempt to regain a jovial holiday atmosphere, smooths the snow pile into a makeshift sledding hill for the guests to enjoy.

Misty's boys have finished their exams and are "home" from college for the winter break, planning to spend most of their time snowboarding at the ski resort. While taking a few runs down Rocky's sledding hill, they discover a funny-looking, nose-shaped rock. Only it's not a rock. It's the frozen nose of Nigel Goodwin, who's found dead and buried under the mound of snow.
