Beschreibung

In 'Hegel: Collected Works', Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel presents a comprehensive examination of dialectical reasoning and the development of human consciousness. This anthology reflects Hegel's profound engagement with themes such as history, art, religion, and philosophy, traversing through his signature dialectic method. Characterized by rigorous yet poetic prose, Hegel's writing challenges readers to grapple with abstract concepts while firmly rooting them in the socio-historical realities of his time, encouraging a more nuanced understanding of how individual and collective identities are formed. Hegel, a pivotal figure in German Idealism, was deeply influenced by the tumultuous intellectual and political climate of late 18th and early 19th century Europe, particularly the aftermath of the French Revolution. His philosophical endeavors were shaped by a desire to systematize the intricate relationships between freedom, ethics, and the unfolding of history. His background in theology and logic further informed his explorations, revealing the synthesis of thought and experience as central to his philosophical enterprise. I highly recommend 'Hegel: Collected Works' to any scholar or enthusiast seeking to delve into the complexities of Hegelian philosophy. This collection not only serves as an essential resource for understanding Hegel's contributions but also engages readers in a critical dialogue about the evolving nature of thought, making it a cornerstone for those exploring the realms of metaphysics and social theory.

Harmony is the delicate balance that governs the universe, present in nature, relationships, and even within ourselves. It is not merely the absence of conflict but a state where opposing forces coexist in a way that fosters growth and stability. From the rhythmic flow of the seasons to the intricate balance of ecosystems, harmony ensures that everything functions in a synchronized and sustainable manner.
In many ancient philosophies, harmony is considered the key to a fulfilled life. Eastern traditions such as Taoism emphasize the importance of living in alignment with the natural flow of the universe, often referred to as the Tao. Similarly, Greek philosophers like Pythagoras and Plato believed in the mathematical and moral symmetry of existence. Across cultures, the idea of balance as a foundation for well-being has been deeply ingrained in spiritual and philosophical teachings.
In nature, harmony manifests through the interplay of elements. Water nourishes the land, the sun provides warmth, and the wind shapes the terrain. Each component of the natural world relies on another to maintain equilibrium. Predators and prey, flora and fauna, all exist within an intricate web where every action influences the greater whole. When this balance is disrupted—whether by natural disasters or human intervention—the consequences ripple through the environment, leading to instability.

    On Forgiveness

This is an essay on forgiveness, not in the religious sense, but in a purely secular meaning, as in, when one person forgives another person for something they did wrong. The primary focus is on self-forgiveness, where a person forgives themselves, a concept which this essay explains as "moral bankruptcy," using debts and credits and bankruptcy and economics and finance as a metaphor for the moral debts and moral credits that you owe to yourself and to others, that you owe it to yourself to be a good person, and you owe it to other people to be good to them, and, where you fail, you owe them a debt. The human brain evolved in such a way that humans tend to subconsciously seek to repay moral debts through the infliction of emotional pain, either inflicting emotional pain upon the self for debts owed to self (guilt), inflicting pain upon the self for debts owed to others (shame), or inflicting pain upon others for debts they owe to you (anger). This essay, despite being atheistic and secular in nature, does explore forgiveness in the context of areas that are commonly thought of as religious sins: lust, greed, pride, envy, and evil, as well as shame and guilt. The key central idea is that self-forgiveness, "moral bankruptcy," can help set you free from any guilt, shame, and anger that is holding you back in your life, and forgiveness will enable you to live a happier life, by giving you the confidence to act, and to achieve, with a greater resistance to fear of feeling guilt or shame if you fail, thereby tranquilizing fear of rejection or fear of failure or fear of disappointment. This theory of emotions will define honor, emotional maturity, self-esteem, and confidence, as well as explaining all of the seven major emotions: happiness, sadness, love, fear, guilt, shame, and anger. This book is cold, logical, no-nonsense wisdom about forgiveness, and is not mere wishy-washy empty generalities like most self-help books.

In "Fundamental Principles of the Metaphysic of Morals," Kant explores the ethical foundation of human actions. He argues for the supremacy of moral duty based on rational principles, emphasizing the intrinsic value of goodwill. Kant's deontological ethics asserts that individuals should act according to universalizable moral maxims, independent of consequences. The text delves into the concept of categorical imperatives and the autonomy of the moral law, shaping a profound philosophical framework for ethical decision-making. Read in English, unabridged.
