Synopsis

Yuri continues his life at the Knight Academy, where he trains in the art of war and deepens his ties with Princess Carol and Myalo, a child from a powerful witch family. When he’s not busy with classes, he also oversees a papermaking business, which is expanding rapidly thanks to memories of technology from his past life.

To many, Yuri’s only problem seems to be the royal capital’s corrupt witches, who eye his company’s profits enviously. Unfortunately, Yuri knows better. His homeland remains on the path of destruction, and a bleak future lies ahead of him and others. It’ll take more than wealth to save his loved ones from death or enslavement at the hands of Kulati invaders. As Yuri begins to grapple with problems that extend beyond the royal capital and even the borders of the Shiyalta Kingdom, his intellect, understanding of celestial navigation, and growing skills as a kingeagle rider may prove invaluable.

This book, set in a dystopian Philadelphia in 2118, invented a new, creepier kind of dystopian Sci Fi.Perhaps the first science fantasy to use the alternate time-track, or parallel worlds, idea. -Groff ConklinA pioneering variation on the parallel worlds theme. -Boucher and McComasA highly imaginative work, one of the classics of early pulp fantastic fiction -Everett F. Bleiler“Stevens, to her credit, manages to keep her story taut and suspenseful, at the same time that she injects pleasing snippets of humor here and there, mainly thanks to the character of Arnold Bertram, a portly thief who had tried to rifle Trenmore’s safe back home and had also been thrown into the year 2118 as a result. The author presciently posits the coming of a second World War, and yet her Philadelphia of two centuries hence still somehow contains “clanging street cars,” shooting galleries, and “movie” theaters. (I love that fact that Stevens puts the word “movie” in quotes; first used around 1911, it must have still seemed a newish, slangy word by 1918!) A pseudo-scientific explanation, at the novel’s end, for all the mishegas that had come before goes far in claiming for the book its place of pride in the early sci-fi field... a most entertaining and atmospheric read.”-Sandy Ferber, fantasyliterature.com

Being a telepathic secret agent has its perks—like lavish undercover assignments in Venice. But when Tessa is sent to a high-society gala at a noblewoman’s estate, she knows something is off. A mysterious invitation, priceless family jewels on display, and an unexpected side job spying on a shady politician? Too many puzzle pieces—and none of them fit.
Then there’s Mirek—handsome, inexperienced, and way too honest for the world of espionage. He’s on a mission of his own, and the last thing Tessa needs is a distraction, especially one with soulful eyes and a dangerous secret. But staying away is proving impossible.
With her signature wit and an attitude sharper than her stilettos, Tessa must navigate masquerade balls, dodgy aristocrats, and a conspiracy that could shake governments. The deeper she digs, the more she realizes that the real prize isn’t the jewels—it’s knowing who to trust… and whether to let her guard down.
Fast-paced, thrilling, and packed with humor and intrigue, VENETIAN delivers a high-stakes adventure where deception lurks behind every mask—and love might be the biggest risk of all. Perfect for fans of espionage, urban fantasy, and action-packed mysteries with a spark of romance.
