Beschreibung

In 2014, The Guardian placed "Hadrian the Seventh" on the list of the 100 best novels written in English. A historical novel by the English novelist Frederick Rolfe, it is based on his essay the Papal Conclave to elect the successor to Pope Leo XIII. It tells about an English priest that got invited by two Catholic priests to Rome, where the Conclave was gathered to elect the new Pope. Suddenly, the Conclave gives this position to him, and since the only previous English Pope was Adrian (or Hadrian) IV, he takes the name Hadrian VII. He is an unconventional pope - a chain smoker wishing to reform the church against fierce opposition from the established Roman Catholic hierarchy. Will he manage to stand the plots and intrigues, and is his reform needed? Those are the matters for readers to discover.

There is something about the number 3.

The Ancient Greeks believed 3 was the perfect number, and in China 3 has always been a lucky number, and they know a thing or two.

Most religions also have 3 this and 3 that and, of course, in these more modern times, three’s a crowd may be too many, except when it’s a ménage à trois. It seems good things usually come in threes.

Whatever history and culture says WE think 3, a hat-trick of stories, is a great number to explore themes and literary avenues that classic authors were so adept at creating.

The New Testament reports the arrival of God’s promised deliverer. In several Gospels, a book of early church history, many letters, and a visionary book of judgment and hope, we learn about the ministry and mission of Jesus and the lives of those who followed him. The Old Testament contained the shadows and patterns and prophecies that anticipated the Christ, and the New Testament announces that the Light of the world has come. We need to understand the story of the New Testament because it is about the one who changed the world--and who changes us. Through various genres and over the course of twenty-seven books, the New Testament points us to the living Christ who secured our atonement, builds his church, and will return in victory to make all things new.

Internationally recognized psychologist Diane Langberg has come face to face with the crushing trauma of sexual abuse, trafficking, domestic abuse, and rape—and its cover-up.

Even more tragic, she has encountered it all within Christian communities and the church.

As a highly respected trauma scholar and psychologist working in the United States and around the world for more than fifty years, she envisions a better way.

In When the Church Harms God's People, Langberg unveils what she has learned about how churches cause harm and why Christian communities often foster unhealthy leaders who end up hurting rather than protecting God's people. She also offers hope for the future, describing how churches can reflect Christ not just in what they teach but also in how they care for themselves and others.

This book is an invaluable tool for leaders and laypeople alike who want to help the church resist abuses of power and become a safe place for survivors.
