Beschreibung

In "Fairview Boys at Lighthouse Cove; or, Carried out to Sea," Frederick Gordon crafts a captivating narrative that intertwines adventure and the trials of youth through the lens of friendship and resilience. Set against the haunting backdrop of a rugged coastline, the story explores themes of bravery, the perils of nature, and the bonds formed through shared hardship. Gordon's prose evokes a vivid sense of place and evokes the spirit of classic adventure literature, reminiscent of works by authors such as Robert Louis Stevenson. This tale navigates both the literal and metaphorical storms faced by its characters, making it a rich text for illustrating the complexities of adolescent life during its time of publication in the early 20th century. Frederick Gordon, a keen observer of human nature and the intricacies of childhood, draws inspiration from his own upbringing along the coastlines of New England. His background as an educator and naturalist informed his portrayal of the boys'Äô journey, reflecting both the innocence of youth and the stark realities of the natural world. Gordon'Äôs vivid storytelling ensures that "Fairview Boys at Lighthouse Cove" will remain a beloved classic in the realm of children'Äôs literature.

Orphans of the Void by Michael Shaara - Finding a cause worth dying for is no great trick—the Universe is full of them. Finding one worth living for is the genuine problem!
In the region of the Coal Sack Nebula, on the dead fourth planet of a star called Tyban, Captain Steffens of the Mapping Command stood counting buildings. Eleven. No, twelve. He wondered if there was any significance in the number. He had no idea.
"What do you make of it?" he asked.
Lieutenant Ball, the executive officer of the ship, almost tried to scratch his head before he remembered that he was wearing a spacesuit.
"Looks like a temporary camp," Ball said. "Very few buildings, and all built out of native materials, the only stuff available. Castaways, maybe?"
Steffens was silent as he walked up onto the rise. The flat weathered stone jutted out of the sand before him.
    "No inscriptions," he pointed out.
"They would have been worn away. See the wind grooves? Anyway, there's not another building on the whole damn planet. You wouldn't call it much of a civilization."
"You don't think these are native?"
Ball said he didn't. Steffens nodded.
Standing there and gazing at the stone, Steffens felt the awe of great age. He had a hunch, deep and intuitive, that this was old—too old. He reached out a gloved hand, ran it gently over the smooth stone ridges of the wall. Although the atmosphere was very thin, he noticed that the buildings had no airlocks.
Ball's voice sounded in his helmet: "Want to set up shop, Skipper?"
Steffens paused. "All right, if you think it will do any good."

When Thor's hammer goes missing, trickster god Loki, still trapped as a cranky eleven-year-old boy, is determined to prove he's innocent (for once!). The hilarious series continues in this second volume.

Norse god Loki records the highs and lows of living on Earth as an eleven-year-old in grumbles, snarks, and doodles in his enchanted diary. He might not have shown any moral improvement (yet), but Odin has given Loki another chance to prove himself worthy of Asgard. Earning everyone's trust isn't easy, however. So far, Loki has managed to make only one human friend, Valerie, but is now irritated to learn that Valerie has made another friend, Georgina. Then, at Thor's birthday party (a pointless mortal ritual, though luckily there is cake), the magical hammer Mjolnir is stolen—and everyone suspects Loki! Can Loki find Thor's hammer, discover who the real thief is, and clear his name—or will his jealousy over Valerie's new friend cloud his judgment? From dangerous Frost Giants to disappointing parent-teacher conferences, Loki's riotously funny adventures continue.
