Beschreibung

Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass is a memoir and treatise on abolition written by famous orator and ex-slave, Frederick Douglass. It is generally held to be the most famous of a number of narratives written by former slaves during the same period. In factual detail, the text describes the events of his life and is considered to be one of the most influential pieces of literature to fuel the abolitionist movement of the early 19th century in the United States.

This is not CSI. What you encounter as a true bomb detective—or "Bomb Doctor," as some in the FBI call me—are fields of twisted metal containing soot-covered fragments intermingled with human remains. You have carnage and chaos. As you wade into that sea of wailing sirens and screaming survivors awash with the stench of diesel fuel and decaying bodies, your job is to ferret out forensic clues in a type of macabre scavenger hunt to ultimately reconstruct the scene and the explosive device and determine what happened and what the bomb looked like before it was torn asunder.

The scavenger hunt can take months—or, in the case of the infamous Collar Bomber, seven painstaking years. The work is worth every second and every horrific image that etches itself into your brain because it helps prevent new horrors. Not all, obviously. We are not superheroes. But unlike shooters, who often just "snap" or seem to act out in random ways, bombers almost always have a story—one that follows an arc.

In The Bomb Doctor, my goal is to explain that arc, explode myths, reconstruct reality, and build an understanding of the reason and means behind the mayhem, as well as pull back the curtain on the investigative process that brings bombers to justice.

Martyn Bennett was an artist ahead of his time. Piper, violinist, composer, producer, DJ – his radical blend of tradition and technology created an audacious new sound that was uniquely his own.
Steeped in the folk cultures of Scotland, yet inspired too by deep-rooted traditions from far beyond, his music ignored boundaries and celebrated cultural difference wherever he found it. Although classically trained, he was drawn to the gritty excitement of the urban dance club scene, and his fusion of folk, classical, jazz and hard-edged electronica was championed by the likes of Peter Gabriel and the folklorist Hamish Henderson who labelled it 'brave new music'.
This biography traces his story through personal struggles and artistic triumphs, and offers an assessment of his place in the pantheon of major Scottish artists. It is a story of resilience as well as innovation: twice diagnosed with unrelated cancers, his professional career lasted little more than a decade, and he fought serious illness for half of it. He died in January 2005, aged 33. Yet his art continues to inspire: where he led, others have followed, and his music still wins awards and fills concert halls at major international festivals two decades after his death.

Once again internationally acclaimed, best-selling biographers Geoffrey Giuliano and Avalon Giuliano tear back the decades-old veil of myth and unquestioning hero worship surrounding the Beatles’ turbulent lives and present the frank, often heart-wrenching tale of four young men from Liverpool thrust upon the world stage and into the stratosphere of untouchable super-stardom. Utilizing a wealth of unpublished personal correspondence, never-before-heard taped conversations, obscure studio and home recordings, lost songs and the forgotten diaries the group left behind at the Maharishi’s ashram in 1968, Revolution is the last word on the Beatles' astounding life and times. For the first time, family members, friends, and colleagues speak out exclusively on the often oppressive constraints of global Beatlemania and the life-changing effect it had on the Boys.

Geoffrey Giuliano is a prominent Beatles biographer and historian who has dedicated his life to unraveling the intricate tapestry of the legendary band's history. With an impressive body of work spanning numerous books, documentaries, and interviews, Giuliano has delved deep into the lives and dynamics of John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr. His meticulous research and extensive interactions with those close to the Beatles have allowed him to offer unique insights into the band's formation, rise to stardom, and eventual dissolution. Despite controversy and criticism surrounding some of his claims, Giuliano's contributions to Beatles scholarship have undeniably enriched the understanding of their enduring impact on music and culture.

"THIS BOOK WILL INTRODUCE THE WORLD TO WREXHAM'S HEART. HER NAME IS KERRY EVANS." RYAN REYNOLDS
Before they purchased Wrexham AFC, Hollywood stars Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds were told to contact two people: footballing legend Dixie McNeil and Kerry Evans. When Kerry received that call from California, something inside her sparked at the words 'Would you like to come on a journey with us?'
Born with cerebral palsy, Kerry battled indifferent doctors, relentless bullies and crushing anxiety to establish the life she'd dreamed of. At thirty, she suffered a near-fatal brain bleed, leaving her without feeling on her right side and unable to walk. From rock bottom, Kerry fought to get her life back. Everything changed when she became Wrexham's disability liaison officer… and then Hollywood came calling.
Stronger Than You Think offers a unique insider perspective on Wrexham's star-studded takeover, with first-hand insights into how two famous actors altered the fortunes of the club and the community surrounding it. But this isn't just the story of Wrexham AFC. This is the story of how one woman's indomitable spirit enabled her to overcome the odds stacked firmly against her and make an immeasurable impact on the lives of football fans with disabilities and their families.
