  Early in her career, there was no actress more controversial than Katharine Hepburn. Late in her career, there was no actress more beloved than Katharine Hepburn. Famously labeled “box office poison” in 1938, it is clear that Hollywood was not prepared for the young Hepburn.  
  Bette Davis presided over Hollywood at a time in which the film industry was at its most influential. Every actress from Katharine Hepburn to Ingrid Bergman and Ginger Rodgers, themselves now considered among Hollywood’s greatest icons, lived in the shadow of Bette Davis. Not only was Davis a box office sensation and commercial success - she became the highest paid actress in 1938 - but she garnered more critical acclaim than any other actress during the time period. 
  Audrey Hepburn continues to retain her popularity and exert a strong influence over how people view beauty and sophistication. She remains an American icon, despite the fact that she did not even move to the United States until 1953 (at the age of 24). 
  Of all the great movie stars, there may be none more enigmatic than Greta Garbo, who remains internationally famous despite the fact her life and career raise more questions than answers. How did a Swedish actress with very little film acting experience in her native land arrive in the United States and achieve instant stardom? 
  	Few actresses lived their lives in the public eye more than Marilyn Monroe, and yet her life remains shrouded in mystery to this day. While it is common knowledge that Marilyn’s life is a rags-to-riches story, her life is bookended by hazy details surrounding her early life and even more mysterious death.  
  Elizabeth Taylor bears little in common with the paradigm of the troubled child star. After arriving in America at the age of 9, Taylor was indoctrinated into Hollywood shortly after child stars Judy Garland and Mickey Rooney, but her experience represented the flip side of the coin.

  England's Queen Elizabeth had to fight for her life and position time and again in an era that was already unsafe for female leaders and she probably had remembered the searing feeling of realizing that her mother, Anne Boleyn had been executed by her father on a trumped-up charge. Danger was pervasive, and strategy was needed not just to thrive but to survive.  
  	Perhaps nothing underscored that fact quite like Elizabeth’s relationship with her cousin, Mary, Queen of Scots. Mary’s fame as a monarch lies less in her personality or achievements than in her position within the dynastic maneuvers and political and religious upheavals taking place in Europe in the 16th century. Most monarchs spent their early years learning in preparation to rule and then spend the latter part of their lives wielding power and status, but Mary was thrust upon the throne when she was only a week old, and she ceased to be queen nearly 20 years before her death. 
  	Mary's tragedy was intertwined with her country's transformation. As a second cousin once removed of England’s Queen Elizabeth I, that potentially made Mary a rival for the throne. Mary was the granddaughter of Margaret Tudor, Henry VIII's sister, and her Catholicism made Mary the true and rightful Queen of England in the eyes of many Catholics and the Vatican. These facts, coupled with the realization that several English Catholics (especially rebels active in the Rising of the North movement) supported Mary, ardently made Elizabeth uneasy. Mary also did not help herself when she married James Hepburn, 4th Earl of Bothwell, who was widely accused of raping her. The Scottish people rebelled, after which Mary abdicated and fled southwards towards England.  
  	Elizabeth I was unsure at first what to do with Mary, so she kept Mary imprisoned in several castles and manor houses inside England, making escape difficult and thus unlikely.

Standing alone fighting some of the top executives. It takes twenty years to get there and another twenty years to get from there. It describes power games of executives and survival games of employees. And how both contribute to the downfall. 
  It is about Yankees and Texans, “Big Dogs” and “peons,” corruption and integrity, deception, and honesty. It is about certainty and uncertainty and the destructive nature of silence. 
  I decided to deny, argue, debate, disagree, and challenge everything. If I wasn’t going to get recognition when I should have, then I’d give them reason not to. With this written response to my review, my insubordination was now on paper. I was proud that I was the only one to not receive a raise. It told me that they were really angry because they lost their little game. That was the best reward I could have received. I had come to feel that the worst statement of my worthiness would be if they thought I was worthy. Things were becoming seriously nasty. 
  Corporations and Big Dogs are at fundamental odds. If everyone were working on their careers instead of just working, no work would get done. Corporations need these people to make everyone think that none of this is true. They pay big dollars for precisely the kind of people they don’t really want. It is a delicate balance because if there are too few of them the peons might start figuring things out. If there are too many of them the Corporation will go right down the tubes. 
   This is not the first time that I had experienced her clairvoyant tendencies. Was this electro-weak at work? Was this proton entanglement? One thing I know, this was not coincidence.
