Set against the rugged backdrop of the American West, Francis Lynde's "The Tenderfoots" delves into the lives of inexperienced cowboys navigating the challenges of life on the frontier. Through richly descriptive prose, Lynde captures the essence of the landscape, while simultaneously exploring themes of resilience and personal growth. The narrative unfolds with a blend of adventure and humor, echoing the literary currents of early 20th-century frontier literature, making it both an entertaining and enlightening read for fans of the genre. Francis Lynde, a seasoned journalist and writer, drew upon his own experiences with the American West to craft this novel. Having lived through the complexities and trials of frontier life, his insights into the social dynamics and struggles of his characters reveal an authentic understanding of the era. Lynde's commitment to portraying the realities of life on the frontier, coupled with his keen eye for captivating storytelling, positions him as a significant voice in American literature. I highly recommend "The Tenderfoots" for readers seeking an engaging tale that combines adventure with introspective character development. "The House of Mirth" is one of Edith Wharton's most critically acclaimed novels, shedding light on the opulent and superficial high society of New York in the Gilded Age. It follows the life and struggles of Lily Bart, a beautiful and intelligent woman of the upper class, as she navigates societal expectations, relationships, and her own aspirations in a world where appearances matter more than one's character. The novel presents a satirical and tragic look at the constraints placed upon women in the 19th and early 20th centuries and is a poignant critique of wealth and class.

"Emma was looking for a reason to live, a reason to die."

Emma Rouault is a woman born out of her time. Raised on a diet of sentimental romance novels and dreams of Parisian high society, she marries Charles Bovary—a dull, well-meaning country doctor—only to find herself suffocated by the grey monotony of provincial life. In a desperate bid to find the "ecstasy" she has read about, Emma enters a spiral of illicit affairs and reckless luxury, unaware that her pursuit of the ideal is leading her toward inevitable ruin. Flaubert's meticulous prose captures the heartbreaking gap between our grandest fantasies and the brutal reality of our lives.

The Architect of Realism: Flaubert famously spent days searching for le mot juste (the right word). Madame Bovary is celebrated for its precise, unemotional observation of human folly. By pioneering the "Free Indirect Discourse" technique, Flaubert allows the reader to step inside Emma's delusional mind while maintaining a critical distance, creating a reading experience that is both intimate and chillingly objective.

A Critique of Romanticism: Emma is the ultimate victim of her own imagination. She views life as a stage, her lovers as heroes, and her surroundings as mere set dressing. Flaubert uses her story to critique the shallow romanticism of the 19th century, showing how the refusal to accept "the ordinary" can become a toxic force that destroys not only the self but everyone in its wake.

Witness the birth of the modern novel. Purchase "Madame Bovary" today and experience the beauty of a tragedy told with surgical precision.

Booker Taliaferro Washington (April 5, 1856 - November 14, 1915) was an American educator, author, orator, and adviser to several presidents of the United States. Between 1890 and 1915, Washington was the dominant leader in the African American community and of the contemporary black elite. Washington was from the last generation of black American leaders born into slavery and became the leading voice of the former slaves and their descendants. They were newly oppressed in the South by disenfranchisement and the Jim Crow discriminatory laws enacted in the post-Reconstruction Southern states in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
SUBSTANCE vs. SHADOW: You are here for the purpose of getting an education. Now, one of the results of an education is to increase a person's wants. You take the ordinary person who lives on a plantation, and so long as that person is ignorant, he is content to live in a cabin with one room, in which he has a skillet, a bedstead-or an apology for one-a table, and a few chairs or stools.

Edgar Poe was born in Boston Massachusetts on 19th January 1809. His father abandoned his family the following year and within a year his mother had died leaving him an orphan.

He was taken in by the Allan family but never formally adopted although he now referred to himself as Edgar Allan Poe. His father alternatively spoiled or chastised him and tension was frequent over gambling debts and monies for his education. His university years to study ancient and modern languages was cut short by lack of money and he enlisted as a private in the army claiming he was 22, it is more probable he was 18. After 2 years he obtained a discharge in order to take up an appointment at the military academy, West Point, where he failed to become an officer.

Poe had released his 1st poetry volume in 1827 and after his 3rd turned to prose and placing short stories in several magazines and journals. At age 26 he obtained a licence to marry his cousin. She was a mere 13 but they stayed together until her death from tuberculosis 11 years after.

In January 1845 ‘The Raven’ was published and became an instant classic. Thereafter followed the prose works for which he is now so rightly famed as a master of the mysterious and the macabre.

Edgar Allan Poe died at the tragically early age of 40 on 7th October 1849 in Baltimore, Maryland. Newspapers at the time reported Poe's death as ‘congestion of the brain’ or ‘cerebral inflammation’, common euphemisms for death from disreputable causes such as alcoholism but the actual cause of death remains a mystery.
