Beschreibung

Francis Hodgson Burnett's "A Little Princess" and "The Secret Garden" are masterpieces of children's literature that delve into themes of resilience, identity, and the transformative power of nature and imagination. Both narratives are intricately woven with a rich, evocative literary style that captures the emotional landscapes of their young protagonists, Sara Crewe and Mary Lennox. Set against the backdrop of Victorian England, these novels challenge social norms, highlight the importance of inner strength, and celebrate the possibility of renewal through friendship and compassion. Burnett employs vivid imagery and immersive storytelling to transport readers into worlds where kindness triumphs over adversity, emphasizing the moral growth of her characters amidst societal challenges. Francis Hodgson Burnett, an American-British author, drew upon her own experiences as a child in a changing society to craft narratives that reflect her deep understanding of isolation and resilience. Burnett's own youth was marked by loss and poverty, themes that resonate throughout her works. Her personal journey as a writer showcases her belief in the potential of children to forge their paths, bringing both hope and joy into their lives despite external circumstances. Readers are wholeheartedly encouraged to immerse themselves in "A Little Princess" and "The Secret Garden," for these works not only entertain but also inspire, presenting enduring lessons about courage, empathy, and the healing power of nature. Such captivating stories remind us that the simplest acts of kindness can create ripples of change, making them timeless reads for both children and adults alike.

In the town of Gladder Hill, there’s no such word as “ugly.” Or “beautiful.”

Zailey has never seen her own face. She’s never seen her reflection, a photo of herself, or even a drawing. In the special community of Gladder Hill, cameras and mirrors are forbidden: it’s why everyone’s happier here. Nobody talks about anyone else’s appearance. You’re not supposed to think
about what other people look like, or what you look like.

    But Zailey does.

She knows her superficial thoughts are wrong, and her sketchbook, filled with secret portraits of her classmates and neighbors, could get her in trouble. Yet she can’t help but think those thoughts, and be curious about the outside world where she once lived, years ago. Most of all, she wonders
what it’s like to see herself—her own face.

When Zailey suddenly finds herself beyond the gates of her town, she has a chance to see if what she’s been taught about the outside world is true and search for the mother she barely remembers. Only then will she find out the real story about Gladder Hill. But is she prepared for the truth?

Thirteen-year-old twins Gabby and Trent Manning are Connecticut's youngest paranormal investigators. Both have inherited "the gift" from their grandparents, the Mannings, whose legendary ghost hunts inspired several books and movies—but whose names have been nearly forgotten since their untimely deaths years ago.

Armed with EMF machines, flashlights, and recording equipment, the twins' mom drags them all over New England in an attempt to bring their family back into the limelight. Never mind that Gabby is tired of being known as a Ghost Twin, and Trent finds most of the haunts to be pretty frightening. Their mom thinks their latest destination is exactly what the family needs to go viral: the abandoned Majestic Theater, the site of the late Mannings' infamous failed exorcism.

However, nothing about this investigation goes according to plan. After a terrifying séance-gone-wrong on the stage, their mother goes missing in the building, and it's clear that a powerful demon is haunting the theater. Will the twins be able live up to their grandparents' legacy and vanquish the demon—before it's too late? Featuring articles, interviews, and other found media throughout, The Many Hauntings of the Manning Family is packed with scares that will leave listeners sleeping with the lights on.

The biblical teaching that Jesus was the Suffering Servant who carried the sins of His people when He went to the cross is vividly brought home to children in The Donkey Who Carried a King, the latest children’s book from respected theologian, author, and educator Dr. R.C. Sproul.Davey was a young donkey who was bored and unhappy because he was never given anything to do. Then one day, some strangers came to the gate―and Davey’s master picked him for a very special task. Davey carried the King, Jesus, into Jerusalem. A few days later, Davey saw some angry people making the King carry a heavy beam of wood. Davey could not understand it―until another donkey helped him see that the King was being a Servant on behalf of His people. The Donkey Who Carried a King offers a unique perspective on the events of Jesus’ Passion Week and calls all believers, both young and old, to follow in the footsteps of the Suffering Servant for the glory of God. Jesus was willing to leave the glories of heaven to suffer and die in this world on our behalf, so we should serve Him with all our hearts.

Modern Ufology focuses on mysterious lights on Ceres or tales of alien abduction, but this wasn’t always the case, and looking at how the beliefs in the UFO phenomenon have changed or stayed the same can shed light on how culture and belief changes over time. One does not have to believe humans are actually being visited by aliens from another planet to recognize the importance of UFOs in human society. Any widespread belief that endures for centuries is worthy of study, and as always, cases exist that can’t be explained away simple superstition.
The first large-scale, official investigation came during the UFO flap of 1947. On December 30, 1947, Major General L. C. Cragie, director of research and development for the United States Air Force, authorized the study of the flying saucer problem. His statement carried the line “by command of the chief of staff.” The program was called Project Sign, and it would be the first of three known U.S. government studies of the UFO phenomenon.
While these American investigations of UFOs from the 1940s and 1950s were documented, nothing exemplifies the debate between those who believe that extraterrestrials visit the Earth and skeptics like the top secret papers that emerged in the 1980s and seemed to prove the existence of a shadowy secret organization known as MJ-12 or Majestic 12. To believers, these papers proved beyond a doubt not only that UFOs were real and of extraterrestrial origin, but also that the federal government had been aware of their existence since the 1940s and had even managed to recover one or more crashed alien spacecrafts. To skeptics, this notion simply proved how gullible UFO believers were. There was no middle ground - people either believed in the MJ-12 papers completely or laughed at them.
