A true story about lies, murder and the Territory.
‘Sorry, mate, but that’s the message.’ Zak says to grow some balls and defend him.
You’ve got to remember he is still a young bloke, stuck in Darwin prison where it’s always hot, the food is slop and they get rats in the wet season.
It’s not enough just to help him get out; Zak wants people to accept his innocence and that he was wrongfully convicted.
‘I don’t know what you want to do with that,’ he tells me.

Zak Grieve grew up in an outback town, at the crossroads between right and wrong, white and black, punishment and forgiving. Convicted of a brutal killing despite even the judge saying he wasn’t there when it happened, he spent years writing letters describing his hopes and dreams, his role in what happened, and how when the real world came down on him with a tonne of punishment, he wasn’t ready.

This is a book about growing up, about dying and about writing. In the end, it is only Zak’s imagination, given life in the novels he also writes inside prison, that hold the key to his survival.

In the grand tradition of Helen Garner’s Joe Cinque’s Consolation and Chloe Hooper’s The Tall Man, this is a gripping story of injustice in the Deep North of Australia.

Blaise Pascal, the seventeenth-century French philosopher and scientist, is perhaps best known for his "wager," an argument about the existence of God. But there was much more to Pascal and his brilliance.

In this accessible and well-documented study, philosopher Douglas Groothuis introduces listeners to Pascal's life as well as the breadth of his intellectual pursuits, including his contributions to mathematics, science, ethics, and theology. Groothuis overviews the key points of Pascal's Pensées, which captures his thoughts about God, humanity, and Jesus Christ. Listeners will also explore Pascal's views on a range of topics, including culture, politics, Islam, and miracles.

Often quoted and often misunderstood, Pascal is a complex figure whose writings have charmed, puzzled, and inspired readers across the centuries. With guidance from a leading Christian thinker and longtime student of Pascal, Beyond the Wager takes you on a journey to discover the riches Pascal has to offer today.

Samuel Langhorne Clemens was born in Florida, Missouri on the 30th November 1835 and is far better known by his pen name of Mark Twain. An American writer and humorist of the first order he is perhaps best known for his novels ‘The Adventures of Tom Sawyer’ and its sequel ‘The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn’ which are often described with that mythic line The Great American Novel.
Twain grew up in Hannibal, Missouri which would later provide the backdrop to these great novels. Apprenticed to a printer he also became a typesetter and then a master riverboat pilot on the Mississippi. Later, heading west with his brother Orion to make his fortune, he failed at gold mining and instead turned to journalism and thence his true calling as a writer of humorous stories where his wit and humor sparkled from every paragraph, his craft evident with every page and punctured target.
A staunch supporter of copyright protections this helped him keep much of the wealth his writing created, though much money was also lost on investments that he pursued in his love for science and technology as well as investing in his own inventions.
Twain was born during a visit by Halley’s comet, and he predicted that he would go out with it as well. He died the day after its subsequent return on 21st April 1910, at his house, Stormfield, located in Redding, Connecticut.

The story of this Bushman's youngest son starts in 1960s' small town New Zealand where life didn't come without its challenges. This true story begins with a lot of rugby, beer, pig hunting and the socialising that was all part of our basic Kiwi lifestyle. However there was me, Terry, different from the rest of my siblings, separated by design and confusing to my parents... This book takes you through a journey out of Tokoroa and into the world where I tried most things, tasted as much forbidden fruit as I could and did my best to experience all life had to offer at the time, but maybe all that glitters isn't always gold. My extended family's backstory paints a picture of love, heartache, rebellion and loss that many of us would not recover from. Did I conform, did I behave, did I make amends and forgive? Prepare to be challenged, pushed and pulled in all directions as this story seldom has a quiet moment. Desperate times call for desperate measures and sometimes in our lives we react in a way that we later regret, or at least try to. Fatherhood, coming out as gay, sex, drugs and rock 'n' roll all rolled into one story. Not just drama - more like adventure with the everlasting search for a resolution.
