Beschreibung

What Is Mathematical Equality

In the field of mathematics, equality refers to a relationship that exists between two numbers or, more generally speaking, two mathematical expressions. This relationship asserts that the quantities share the same value or that the expressions reflect the same mathematical object. The statement that A and B are equal can be written as "A equals B" and spoken as "A is equal to B." An "equals sign" is the name given to the symbol "=". Two things are considered to be separate if they cannot be compared to one another.

    In the dust of the Gilded Age Bone Wars, two vastly different men emerge with a mission to fill the empty halls of New York's struggling American Museum of Natural History: Henry Fairfield Osborn, a socialite whose reputation rests on the museum's success, and intrepid Kansas-born fossil hunter Barnum Brown.

    When Brown unearths the first Tyrannosaurus Rex fossils in the Montana wilderness, forever changing the world of paleontology, Osborn sees a path to save his museum from irrelevancy. With four-foot-long jaws capable of crushing the bones of its prey and hips that powered the animal to run at speeds of twenty-five miles per hour, the T. Rex suggests a prehistoric ecosystem more complex than anyone imagined. As the public turns out in droves to cower before this bone-chilling giant of the past and wonder at the mysteries of its disappearance, Brown and Osborn together turn dinosaurs from a biological oddity into a beloved part of culture.

    The Monster's Bones journeys from prehistory to present day, from remote Patagonia to the badlands of the American West to the penthouses of Manhattan. With a wide-ranging cast of robber barons, eugenicists, and opportunistic cowboys, New York Times bestselling author David K. Randall reveals how a monster of a bygone era ignited a new understanding of our planet and our place within it.

    A lively exploration of how invisibility has gone from science fiction to fact

    Is it possible for something or someone to be made invisible? This question, which has intrigued authors of science fiction for over a century, has become a headline-grabbing topic of scientific research.

    In this book, science writer and optical physicist Gregory J. Gbur traces the science of invisibility from its sci-fi origins in the nineteenth-century writings of authors such as H. G. Wells and Fitz James O'Brien to modern stealth technology, invisibility cloaks, and metamaterials. He explores the history of invisibility and its science and technology connections, including the discovery of the electromagnetic spectrum, the development of the atomic model, and quantum theory. He shows how invisibility has moved from fiction to reality, and he questions the hidden paths that lie ahead for researchers.

    This is not only the story of invisibility but also the story of humankind's understanding of the nature of light itself, and of the many fascinating figures whose discoveries advanced this knowledge.

    What if the universe didn't begin with a bang, but with a rule?
    In Law & Limit: The Architecture of the Infinite, independent theorist Kiet Anh Le redefines the origin of existence itself. Every event, every equation, presupposes structure — meaning that Law, not matter or time, is the true beginning of reality.
    Through a blend of logic, mathematics, and metaphysics, Le reveals a profound architecture of being built on three principles:
    Law (Λ) — the totality of consistent relations that make existence possible;
    Existence (E) — the realization of those relations;
    and the Outer Limit (Ωₗ) — the boundary that completes reality without infinite regress.
    Drawing insights from physics, philosophy, and formal reasoning, Law & Limit presents a daring synthesis where logic becomes cosmology and coherence becomes the foundation of all things. It's a philosophical journey beyond spacetime — into the very structure of the infinite.

    The book provides a comforting yet accurate overview of the anesthetic process for surgery, aimed at children who are injured and frightened about what to expect. It explains the journey from preoperative holding to the operating room and then to the post-anesthesia care unit. The narrative highlights the steps involved in anesthesia in a medically accurate yet fun and playful way, making the child feel as if they are embarking on a rocket ship ride under anesthesia. This process is portrayed as safe and guided by the anesthetist, who is depicted as a knowledgeable and compassionate guide.
    The child is introduced to the medical equipment they will encounter, such as the face mask, reservoir bag, and vital sign monitors, making them appear approachable and less intimidating. Additionally, the anesthetist is portrayed as an "anesthesia angel" and a real-life superhero, alongside various other healthcare providers who are dedicated to helping and caring for the child. All medical personnel are in scrubs. Ultimately, the child undergoes an inhalational general anesthetic and emerges as their own "astronaut of anesthesia" superhero filled with pride and a beaming smile.
