A celebration and exploration of gossip, reclaiming it as a powerful tool for building relationships, sharing vital information and enabling women’s voices to be heard.
    Tittle-tattle. Hearsay. Rumours. Bitching. Tea.
Call it what you will: the fact remains that gossip is entwined into our daily lives. From group WhatsApp chats to click-bait headlines, social media snooping to reality television, there is nothing more devilishly delicious, scandalous, and satisfying than a juicy piece of gossip.
All-too-often dismissed as the past-time of silly schoolgirls and bored housewives, there’s more to gossip than meets the eye. In today’s world of misinformation, where the voices and stories of women are being silenced, gossip has the power to shatter reputations and destroy credibility. Yet it can also be a vital political tool; a communication style that strengthens relationships and can even act a life-saving measure.
Tracing gossip’s roots from old wives’ tales and the witch trials to reality TV, whisper networks and defamation lawsuits, Beyond Belief asks, have we lost the ability to listen; to hear, and to believe women who speak up and speak out?
A joyous reclamation of women’s words, this book is for anyone who’s ever uttered the words, ‘You won’t believe this…’

Podcaster and former TMZ host Van Lathan Jr. writes a sharp, funny, and brutally honest, cultural critique of the unspoken obstacles and extreme anxiety that keep us from maintaining good health in America’s “wellness waistland,” explored through vignettes about his mental health and weight loss journey as a Black man.   A formerly chubby kid who self‑identified for much of his life as “the fat friend,” media personality and podcast host Van Lathan Jr. has struggled with physical and mental health his entire life. He was used to being his besties' wing man on the dating scene, the slack bench‑dweller at the gym, and his mother's biggest fan at every meal, especially whenever she served up her infamous mac and cheese with five different kinds of cheese. At 365 lbs, Van hated being fat so much, he found it harder than being Black! After dedicating years to improving his physical and mental health, with many ups and downs, in 2020 Van found himself in a shared slump with other Americans when the Covid-19 pandemic hit and the George Floyd video was released—suddenly he was surrounded by carbs galore, binge-ing everything, feeling non‑stop exhaustion, and crippling waves of anxiety and depression. Fat, Crazy, and Tired isn't just about Van's ultimately unsuccessful journey to an Instagram‑able body and zen; it's about the unspoken personal battlefield of attaining and maintaining what Americans deem as good health. He explores the real reasons behind our unending physical and mental health battles—culture, family, and the baggage of life—and demonstrates how we can better understand our bodies by better understanding ourselves. He takes it back to his southern upbringing in Baton Rouge, opens up about how being “the Black guy” at work at TMZ overshadowed his identity, and shares how he holds up to survive the madness.“Detox” cleanses? Weight loss pills? Celery juice? No, thank you. Unlike the self‑help gurus that push you to go “all or nothing” and “keep it 100,” Van wants you to be happier and healthier at 50% without totally admonishing yourself to get there. Packed with double doses of humor Fat, Crazy, and Tired shares abrutally honest cultural critique of mental health and our weight loss obsession in what he dubs America’s “wellness waistland.”

The Sasanian Empire, often referred to by historians as the Neo-Persian Empire, was the last significant Iranian empire before the Muslim invasions of the 7th and 8th centuries AD. Named after the House of Sasan, this empire lasted nearly four centuries, from 224 to 651 AD, making it the longest-lived Persian imperial dynasty. The Sasanian Empire emerged during late antiquity, succeeding the Parthian Empire and re-establishing Persian prominence in the region, rivaling the Roman Empire (later known as the Byzantine Empire after 395 AD).
Ardashir I, an Iranian prince, founded the Sasanian Empire following the decline of Parthia, which was weakened by internal strife and pressures from Rome. After defeating the last Parthian king, Artabanus IV, at the Battle of Hormozdgan in 224, Ardashir set out to restore the glory of the Achaemenid Empire by expanding Iran's territories. Under the Sasanian rule, the empire stretched from the eastern Mediterranean, including Anatolia and Egypt, to parts of modern-day Pakistan. It also extended across southern Arabia, the Caucasus, and Central Asia. According to mythology, the Derafsh Kaviani served as the vexilloid of the Sasanian Empire.
The Sasanian period was marked by significant advancements in culture, architecture, and religion. Zoroastrianism became the state religion, shaping the empire's identity and influencing its governance. The Sasanians promoted a rich cultural life, characterized by advancements in art, science, and philosophy. They established grand cities with impressive architecture, including palaces, fire temples, and public spaces that highlighted their achievements.
