Summary

What Is Flexible Electronics

Mounting electronic components on flexible plastic substrates, such as polyimide, PEEK, or transparent conductive polyester film, is the method used in the technology known as flexible electronics, which is also known as flex circuits. This method is used to assemble electronic circuits. In addition to this method, silver circuits may be screen printed on polyester to create flex circuits. It is possible to build flexible electronic assemblies using the same components that are used to produce rigid printed circuit boards. This gives the board the ability to adapt to any desired shape and to bend while it is in use.

A “compelling and elegantly written” history of the fight for the Amazon basin and the work of a brilliant but overlooked Brazilian intellectual (Times Literary Supplement, UK).

The fortunes of the late nineteenth century’s imperial powers depended on a single raw material—rubber—with only one source: the Amazon basin. This scenario ignited a decades-long conflict that found Britain, France, Belgium, and the United States fighting with and against the new nations of Peru, Bolivia, and Brazil for the forest’s riches. In the midst of this struggle, the Brazilian author and geographer Euclides da Cunha led a survey expedition to the farthest reaches of the river.

The Scramble for the Amazon tells the story of da Cunha’s terrifying journey, the unfinished novel born from it, and the global strife that formed the backdrop for both. Haunted by his broken marriage, da Cunha trekked through a beautiful region thrown into chaos by guerrilla warfare, starving migrants, and native slavery. All the while, he worked on his masterpiece, a nationalist synthesis of geography, philosophy, biology, and journalism entitled Lost Paradise.

Hoping to unveil the Amazon’s explorers, spies, natives, and brutal geopolitics, Da Cunha was killed by his wife’s lover before he could complete his epic work. once the biography of Da Cunha, a translation of his unfinished work, and a chronicle of the social, political, and environmental history of the Amazon, The Scramble for the Amazon is a work of thrilling intellectual ambition.

In a new departure in the Battleground Europe series, this book is a guide to both sides of a major battle in this case to the Canadian Corps operations against 1st Bavarian Reserve Corps at Vimy from 9 12 April 1917, which formed part of the opening of the British offensive, known as the Battle of Arras. Historically, the capture of Vimy Ridge was an event far more significant than its undoubted military importance alone. Here for the first time all four divisions of the Canadian Corps were deployed in line together in one offensive; and although the Corps went to fight even greater battles, Vimy marked a key point in the emergence of Canada as a fully sovereign nation.Although the Canadian side of the story has been well chronicled by a number of writers, until now there has been little concerning the defense during this great battle. Now, the accounts of the German soldiers and their commanders are combined with those of the Canadians and British deployed on the other side of No Mans Land and not simply those who fought above ground, but tunnelers also.

It is no wonder that we are terrified by the current unchartered territory of global population growth, ecosystem stress, polarized political struggles, the decline of traditional religious practice, and more. How do we avoid curling up into a ball and giving up? Our guests share the vision of a co-creative, emergent, self-organizing movement they call the “Order of the Sacred Earth (OSE)” as an antidote to the many negative forces that surround us. There are OSE pods sprouting up all over the country. These groups of people are reading the book Order of the Sacred Earth, taking the vow “ I promise to be the best lover and defender of Earth I can be,” and then expressing that vow in any way that feels right for their community.
There are no “shoulds” as to how each individual pod will accomplish their ends. Each community creates their own meaningful rituals. Listug, Wilson, and Fox are creating a hub website to assist with connecting people to one another and for a cross-fertilization of ideas to support growing a movement toward a more sustainable and equitable world. It is the intention that this vision will attract those of like mind and that many others will take the vow. It also creates a platform for younger people and elders to share their wisdom through mutual dialogue and shared rituals. Listug talks about the power of taking the vow: “The moment one definitely commits one’s self then Providence, Universal Energy, God, Essence moves too . . .[P]rovidence will help our efforts in ways that we’re not aware of.” (hosted by Justine Willis Toms)
