Synopsis

The problem-oriented approach (POA) is the method recommended by the College of Internal Medicine to address and resolve medical questions and problems. Hence the idea of creating a book based on algorithms dealing with the main clinical and laboratory canine and feline clinical abnormalities, using an innovative perspective. Each one of the 85 algorithms guides the reader step-by-step with logical, practical, cost-effective options to proceed from a general concern, laboratory abnormality, or imaging finding to a specific diagnosis or treatment. A concise summary is provided on the first page of each topic, the algorithm follows, and then succinct explanations are provided for many of the recommended steps within each algorithm. In this book, two useful and innovative aspects were included: color codes and links for additional information within the algorithm.

Yellow indicates the diagnostic path, red the diagnosis and blue the therapy; this allows the veterinarian to be guided through the diagnostic labyrinth in order to reach the most appropriate therapy. Inside the red boxes, the list of differential diagnoses for each problem can quickly be identified. By following the yellow boxes one can understand how to reach these diagnoses, and optimize the diagnostic protocol. Moreover, comprehensive notes, linked to the algorithms by references, give more details regarding a specific diagnostic investigation, a particular disease or the therapy recommended.

For many years, Britain tried to impose its own laws on the peoples it conquered, and English common law usually followed the Union Jack. But the common law became less common after Britain emerged from the Seven Years' War as the world's most powerful empire. At that point, imperial policymakers adopted a strategy of legal pluralism: some colonies remained under English law, while others retained much of their previous legal regimes.

As legal historian Christian R. Burset argues, determining how much English law a colony received depended on what kind of colony Britain wanted to create. Policymakers thought English law could turn any territory into an anglicized, commercial colony; legal pluralism, in contrast, would ensure a colony's economic and political subordination. Britain's turn to legal pluralism thus reflected the victory of a new vision of empire—authoritarian, extractive, and tolerant—over more assimilationist and egalitarian alternatives. Among other implications, this helps explain American colonists' reverence for the common law: it expressed and preserved their equal status in the empire. This book, the first empire-wide overview of law as an instrument of policy in the eighteenth-century British Empire, offers an imaginative rethinking of the relationship between tolerance and empire.

Born in Cambridge, England, to an upper-middle-class family, John Maynard Keynes (1883-1946) attended Eton College and King’s College, Cambridge, where he received a BA in mathematics in 1904. From an early age, he evinced an optimism about improving human life and believed in the power of government to change things for the better. During World War I, Keynes served in the Treasury and his success in this role led to his appointment as a representative to the Versailles peace conference in 1919. While this experience was ultimately frustrating and disillusioning, it laid the foundation for his later work during the Great Depression and World War II, when his ideas gained increasing influence and were gradually adopted by economic policymakers throughout the world.
In Simply Keynes, Professor Roger Backhouse provides a comprehensive introduction to Keynes and Keynesianism, arguing that Keynes should be seen not only as an economist, but also as a moral philosopher who believed the state had a moral obligation to intervene for the greater good. Beginning with the economist’s early life and the context in which his ideas arose, Professor Backhouse chronicles the transformation of economics in the so-called “Age of Keynes,” the opposition that arose in the 1970s, and the revival of Keynesianism following the 2007-08 global financial crisis.
For 100 years, the ideas of John Maynard Keynes have been central to discussions and decision-making about economics, free markets, and the role of government in capitalist systems. With admirable concision and clarity, Simply Keynes allows the lay reader to understand not only the critical importance of Keynes’s ideas in recent history, but also their continued relevance in our own day and into the future.

In Educating for a Sustainable Future, Brian Gibson invites readers to embark on a bold intellectual and moral journey—one that redefines learning in the age of climate crisis, social inequality, and economic uncertainty. Drawing on critical pedagogy, ecological philosophy, and contemporary ethics, this book examines how education can become a transformative force, cultivating empathy, creativity, and sustainability in every learner. It proposes a radical rethinking of how we teach, what we value, and why we learn.
Through thought-provoking analysis and inspiring real-world examples, Gibson shows that true education is not about competing for success, but about co-creating a just, sustainable, and flourishing world.
    Inside you’ll discover:
    •	How current education systems perpetuate inequality and ecological harm
    •	What a post-capitalist framework for learning might look like
    •	Ways to cultivate ethical, democratic, and environmentally conscious classrooms
    •	Strategies for aligning education with the values of justice, care, and sustainability
Educating for a Sustainable Future is a powerful call to educators, policymakers, and global citizens who believe that a better world begins in the classroom—and that learning itself must evolve if humanity is to thrive.
