  Between World War II and 1980, tens of thousands of Black people moved to Boston from the South as part of the Great Migration, one of the most consequential mass movements of people in American history.   Blake Gumprecht traces the history of this migration and explores its impacts in greater depth through the lives of ten individuals, each the subject of one chapter. Those chapters are short biographies based on extensive interviews by the author and are told in an engaging style that reflects the author's background as a journalist. 
   
   
   
  The ten people featured came from six southern states. They fled racism, limited opportunity, and hopelessness, and moved north in pursuit of better jobs, equal treatment, and greater freedom. They settled in neighborhoods such as Roxbury, Dorchester, and Mattapan. They worked as teachers, factory workers, welders, and security guards. Their stories are emblematic of the experiences of Black people everywhere who left the South, and provide a rare glimpse into the lives of ordinary people living in one city's Black community.

  Unit 2 focuses solely on increasing your listening ability, which will improve your abilities to engage in dialogue with a native French speaker. This chapter requires you to listen very carefully to nuances in the language. 
  By Unit 3 you will already notice progress in your abilities to speak and understand French. The spoken translation is followed by two repetitions in French at a completely natural speed. While you are learning to process naturally spoken French, Units 3 and 4 will help you memorise new vocabulary and full sentences. 
  In Unit 5 you can test yourself on how much you have learned. If you are having difficulties, we suggest you revisit the listening, speaking, or memorisation section of Units 1, 2 3 or 4, according to what you need more help with.

The symmetry could be seen in each corner of the complex except for Mumtaz Mahal’s extravagant tomb chamber—the symmetrical design was broken when Shah Jahan’s cenotaph was added years later. 
  Some said it was intentional, while others claimed Shah Jahan never intended to be buried beside his wife. Legend has it that the emperor was planning to build another mausoleum for himself that mirrored the Taj Mahal; it was to be placed across from the Taj Mahal and made of black marble. However, whether this is true remains a debate. Ancient sources contradict each other, which can be confusing for curious readers.
