  America's consumer debt machine was not inevitable. In the years after World War II, state and federal regulations ensured that many Americans enjoyed safe banks and inexpensive credit. Bankers, though, grew restless amid restrictive rules that made profits scarce. They experimented with new services and new technologies. They settled on credit cards, and in the 1960s mailed out reams of high-interest plastic to build a debt industry from scratch. 
   
   
    
  In the 1960s and 70s consumers fought back, using federal and state policy to make credit cards safer and more affordable. But bankers found ways to work around local rules. Beginning in 1980, Citibank and its peers relocated their card plans to South Dakota and Delaware, states with the weakest consumer regulations, creating "on-shore" financial havens and drawing consumers into an exploitative credit economy over which they had little control. We live in the world these bankers made.

  Margaret J Wheatley, Ph.D. is an internationally acclaimed writer, speaker, and teacher. She began caring about the world's peoples in 1966 as a Peace Corps volunteer in postwar Korea. She is cofounder and President Emerita of The Berkana Institute, a charitable foundation that works with people around the world to strengthen their communities using the wisdom and wealth already present in their people, traditions, and environment. She is a guide in leading people back to understanding who we are as humans, being able to create the conditions for our basic qualities of generosity, contribution, community, and love. She is a grand contributor in creating an Island of Sanity in the midst of wildly disruptive seas.

  本书从句法与形态接口视角主要探讨现代汉语中三个与"得"相关的结构，即带"得"的可能补语句、结果补语句和状态补语句，并对这三类结构做出一个较为统一的考察。研究发现，带"得"的可能补语句、结果补语句及状态补语句受制于很多共同的限制，如该类结构中的动词都不能受方式状语修饰，该类结构都不能使用肯定的命令式等。本研究不仅可以找出某些带"得"的状态补语句与某些带"得"的可能补语句（或结果补语句）之间存在歧义的根源，还可以揭示与"得"相关的这几类句型之间的内部联系及其背后隐藏的普遍语法规律。
