Synopsis

The Workplace Adaptability Guide tackles a defining challenge of modern careers: thriving amid constant change. Centered on the idea that adaptability is a trainable skill—not an innate trait—the book offers a research-backed roadmap for building professional resilience. Blending organizational psychology, case studies, and practical tools, it focuses on three core skills: cognitive flexibility (rethinking challenges creatively), emotional regulation (managing stress constructively), and proactive learning (anticipating future skill needs). These concepts are framed as measurable competencies, vital for industries facing disruption. A striking example cites research predicting 65% of today’s schoolchildren will work in jobs that don’t yet exist, underscoring why adaptability is critical for career longevity.

Structured in three clear sections, the guide progresses from debunking resilience myths to actionable strategies for individuals and teams. It distinguishes itself by linking personal growth to organizational change—like showing how “adaptability infrastructure” can align company metrics with long-term learning. Real-world examples span tech, healthcare, and manufacturing, while tools like “Resilience Mapping” help readers diagnose growth areas. The tone balances rigor with accessibility, using analogies like comparing cognitive flexibility to software updates that keep mental models current.

What sets this book apart is its dual focus: equipping professionals to navigate uncertainty while advising leaders on fostering adaptable cultures. By democratizing resilience as a learnable edge, it appeals to anyone seeking to future-proof their career or team—without glorifying burnout. Practical appendices, including stress-management checklists and goal-setting templates, cement its value as both a conceptual primer and a hands-on toolkit.

I've self-published for over ten years. I've seen the industry start, take off and mature. I've seen tactics, companies and people come and go.
However, over that time, a few important principles have always held true, but in the morass of advice of varying quality it can be hard to separate the wheat from the chaff.
In 2017, I wrote the Unboxed books, a series of four books about how to publish sustainably, and by that I mean in a manner so that you can keep doing it long-term, and how to use your mailing list to set up a self-perpetuating sales vehicle.
While the strategies haven't changed, many of the peripheral situations have. In short: we have far more and better tools, but far more competition, not only from other authors on the sales front, but also from services that entice us to spend ever more money before we publish.
This book is my ultimate guide to what you need, what you can try, and what is likely to be a waste of your money and time.
Over more than 500 pages I talk about the unvarnished experience of self-publishing and selling books while keeping control of my catalogue and not funding anyone's private jet in advertising costs.
I wrote this book to pay it forward to the community. I don't sell courses. I don't do affiliate marketing. I have no vested interest in anyone's self-publishing journey. Except for this: I want you to enjoy it.

What's the money for? That's the question Governor Jay Hammond asked when he created the Permanent Fund. His answer: the money belongs to Alaskans, and Alaskans should benefit directly. The dividend was just the beginning. Hammond envisioned a fund that would do more—that would help Alaskans build lives and futures here. Forty years later, that vision remains incomplete. Today, young Alaskans can't afford to stay. At 6.5% interest, a $350,000 home costs nearly $800,000 over thirty years—and most of that money leaves the state, flowing to Wall Street investors who've never set foot in Alaska. There's another way. A small allocation from the Permanent Fund—just 10%—could provide 2% mortgages to 23,000 Alaska families. The savings: more than $330,000 per family over the life of a loan. The interest doesn't disappear; it returns to the Fund. Alaska's wealth stays in Alaska, building Alaska families, in Alaska communities. This book lays out exactly how it would work—the mechanics, the math, the politics, and the path to passage. It's a blueprint for completing what Hammond started. What's the money for? It's for Alaskans. It always was.
