  The Gupta Empire, one of the most influential dynasties in Indian history, emerged in the early 4th century CE. It marked the beginning of a new era characterized by political stability, territorial expansion, and remarkable advancements in various fields. The foundation of the empire was laid by Chandragupta I, whose leadership and strategic alliances set the stage for the golden age that followed. 
  The origins of the Gupta dynasty remain somewhat obscure, but historical records suggest that they were a powerful regional clan in the Magadha region, present-day Bihar. Unlike the Mauryan Empire, which had a centralized administrative structure, the Gupta rulers adopted a more decentralized approach, allowing local rulers to maintain a degree of autonomy while still pledging allegiance to the empire. This governance model contributed to their long-lasting rule and ensured stability across their vast territories. 
  Chandragupta I, who ascended the throne around 320 CE, played a crucial role in the establishment of the empire. His most significant achievement was his matrimonial alliance with the Licchavi princess Kumaradevi, which not only strengthened his position but also expanded his influence in the fertile Ganges basin. This strategic marriage helped him consolidate power and gain the support of powerful regional factions. As a result, the empire's boundaries began to expand, laying the groundwork for future conquests.

  Thomas Henry Lyon (1869–1953) was an important architect whose work has often been ignored, because he did not take up the Modernist ideas of many of his contemporaries. His work was also almost entirely concentrated in either Cambridge or the edge of Dartmoor. His contribution to the inter-War development of the Colleges of Cambridge was immense and often overlooked: this book seeks to restore his reputation.
  
   
  The book restores to public consciousness the extensive architectural work carried out by Lyon, particularly in Cambridge, and does not gloss over the disaster of a church in Wembley which had to be closed after less than 30 years. It also looks at the important work he carried out in South Australia in the pre-1914 age, as well as his masterly reconstruction and furnishing of Sidney Sussex College chapel, which established his reputation. It has been extensively researched in archives across England, but particularly in those of the Colleges of Cambridge.

  Many Disney films adapt works from the Victorian period, which is often called the Golden Age of children's literature. Animating the Victorians: Disney's Literary History explores Disney's adaptations of Victorian texts like Alice in Wonderland, Oliver Twist, Treasure Island, Peter Pan, and the tales of Hans Christian Andersen. Author Patrick C. Fleming traces those adaptations from initial concept to theatrical release and beyond to the sequels, consumer products, and theme park attractions that make up a Disney franchise. During the production process, which often extended over decades, Disney's writers engaged not just with the texts themselves but with the contexts in which they were written, their authors' biographies, and intervening adaptations. 
  Linking the Disney Princess franchise to Victorian ideologies shows how gender and sexuality are constantly being renegotiated. Disney's animated musicals, theme parks, copyright practices, and even marketing campaigns depend on cultural assumptions, legal frameworks, and media technologies that emerged in nineteenth-century England.
