Beschreibung

The author and illustrator Ernest Thompson Seton was a prominent naturalist and founder of the Boy Scouts of America. An Englishman of Scottish ancestry, Seton was raised in North America, his family having emigrated to Canada in 1866. He gained experience as a naturalist by trailing and hunting in the prairie country of Manitoba. He used this knowledge as the basis for his pioneering series of animal fiction books. His most enduring work is ‘Wild Animals I Have Known’ (1898), featuring the beloved tale of the wolf Lobo. Deeply concerned for the future of the prairie, Seton fought to establish reservations for Indians and parks for animals threatened by extinction, as well as providing children with the opportunities for nature study. For the first time in publishing history, this eBook presents Seton’s complete fictional works, with numerous illustrations, rare texts, informative introductions and the usual Delphi bonus material. The mechanics have a secret hidden deep in the junkyard. I’ll never tell anyone…
I’m a private equity investor. I buy struggling companies and gut them. People think I’m evil, but it’s just business.
My latest employees refuse to be laid off though.
Now I’m chained to a desk in a dark, lonely room. I struggle to remember what life was like before this. I’ve become a pet—a toy for the men I was supposed to fire.
They’ve fastened a collar around my neck and named me “Shadow”. They’ve trained me for obedience. With each passing day, it grows harder to remember my past. I’m sinking deep into this new life.

The director of the Pompeii Archaeological Park offers a vivid view of daily life in the lost city, shares the latest discoveries, and reflects on preserving heritage. In The Buried City, Gabriel Zuchtriegel takes us on a behind-the-scenes tour of Pompeii and reveals new archaeological finds that are being unearthed at the site’s biggest dig in a generation. As director of the Pompeii Archaeological Park, Zuchtriegel presents a uniquely intimate perspective on this city that was tragically destroyed and frozen in time by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 CE. Among the ruins, we find unmade beds, dishes left drying, and bodies of victims encased in ash, but Zuchtriegel shows that we’ve only begun to understand this fascinating place, as a third of the site remains unexcavated. Zuchtriegel leads us into the heart of the city, reconstructing Pompeii as it would have been, showing us who lived there, what mattered to them, and what happened in their final hours. The Buried City reveals the latest discoveries unearthed at Pompeii—including a banquet hall with murals of Greek gods, a fresco of what appears to be a pizza, and the remains of individuals crushed by debris—all buried for almost two thousand years. Zuchtriegel offers a vivid portrait of this World Heritage site as a vibrant and diverse city, connecting us to a past that is much closer than we think and inviting us to reflect on our role as keepers of the site and its history.

Brahma, is the world-creator, Vishnu, the world maintainer, and Shiva, the world destroyer. Together they are the Trimurti or “the Hindu trinity.” In the venerable Vedic texts Bhagavad-gita and Srimad-Bhagavatam, you’ll find Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva accurately explained in the context of an exacting and comprehensive account of God and His creation, an account that is unrivaled in completeness and coherence by any other philosophical, scientific, or religious literature, and that is not only intellectually satisfying but also aesthetically captivating and spiritually fulfilling.
In Srimad-Bhagavatam you’ll encounter the important distinction between the idea of “God” and the idea of “Absolute Truth.” “God” refers to any powerful controller, while “absolute truth” designates the ultimate source of all energies. There can be many gods, many controlling departmental heads of universal affairs, but only one absolute truth. This absolute truth is ultimately a person— Krishna. From Krishna everything emanates; by Krishna everything is maintained; to Krishna everything returns at the time of dissolution. This is what is meant by “absolute truth.” Anything that exists is either Krishna or Krishna’s energy.

Krishna’s main energies are three: His internal energy is manifest as the transcendent spiritual kingdom; His external energy, as the temporary material world. His marginal energy is comprised of all living creatures, the individual animate souls. Souls are “marginal” because they can dwell either in the spiritual kingdom, serving Krishna in bliss and knowledge, or in the material world, forgetting Krishna in darkness and suffering. The Sanskrit word for the soul is jiva (“living entity”), and the marginal energy is also called jiva-tattva, the category of the jiva.

For most of history, people lived in small, tight-knit communities where interactions were with familiar faces. But with the Age of Exploration, strangers became a regular part of life. Misunderstandings, amplified by language barriers and cultural differences, were common, and these issues still persist today, even among people who speak the same language. It's easy to make assumptions about how others see the world, and it’s difficult to avoid the biases we carry.
Some misunderstandings arise because of lies, and lies can be incredibly difficult to detect. Some deceivers are skilled at hiding their dishonesty, while others may lie poorly, yet still manage to gain people’s trust. It’s not that people are naïve; rather, humans are wired to trust others by default. This tendency, coupled with the belief that we’re good at reading character, often leads us astray.
The consequences of misjudging others can be severe—ranging from financial loss and wrongful imprisonment to life-threatening situations. It’s essential to be mindful of the gaps in our understanding and work to see things from others’ perspectives.

This book is my second on stranger than science stories and facts. The idea is from the book “Stranger Than Science” by Frank Edwards that I read when I was a kid. It made a great impression on me since it caused me to be curious about all of the unknown facts in the world. In this Volume Two I’ve gone through my 120 plus books again to find interesting subjects I’ve either experienced or researched which were not discussed in the first book.My goal is to open the eyes of the reader to facts and stories about the unknown they may not know about. Hopefully this will lead you to become more open minded and think seriously about new things which may not have been part of your life before. Here you will read stories about the Paranormal, Spiritual Enlightenment, Legendary animals like Dragons, giant snakes, living dinosaurs, ball lightning, alien anti-gravity technology, improving longevity, and much more.I promise you will not be bored with the materials we cover here. After reading this book I hope you can see that our world is truly mysterious and the more we know, the more questions we have, and the more there is to know.
