Sinopsis

Angela Murphy has just started as a detective on the mean streets of Glasgow, when the mutilated corpse of a young prostitute is discovered in a squalid apartment.

Called to investigate the grisly murder, Angela is both shocked and surprised. To her boss, Frank Martin, there's something horribly familiar about the scene. He has seen it before.

With limited resources and lacking experience, Angela is desperate to prove herself. But is it really the work of a copycat killer, and will Angela's enthusiasm and determination be enough to bring the killer to justice before another life is lost?

Fifteen years before Sir Arthur Conan Doyle published A Study in Scarlet, Anna Katharine Green began writing The Leavenworth Case, inspiring the creation of detectives like Sherlock, Poirot, and Wimsey, as well as almost every device and convention we now recognize as standard in detective mystery fiction.
When her father's client is found murdered, Anna takes up the call to prove innocent the young girl accused of the murder. The investigation inspires many of the events, characters, and descriptions that would later be published in her debut novel.
A love letter to mystery and writing itself, A Deed of Dreadful Note is an homage and reintroduction to an author who was the Agatha Christie of her time but a forgotten female today.
This book is a fictionalized account of how Anna Katharine Green’s first novel may have come to be…
A Deed of Dreadful Note is Book One in the Anna Katharine Green Mysteries, the only historical fiction series featuring the Mother of Detective Fiction.

"Have you seen this?" An innocent enough question, asked millions of times around the world every day, but tonight it will lead to a shocking, violent event that destroys multiple lives.
Glaswegian forklift truck driver Jack is quietly enjoying his tea break when a friend shows him something on the internet. Outrage follows, quickly spreading through social media, and within hours an angry mob has formed to put the world to rights. Modern justice is soft, as Jack knows, so perhaps it's time things were done like they were in the good old days...
Steven A. McKay is the bestselling author of numerous historical fiction novels and short stories including The Druid, The Heathen Horde, and Wolf's Head. "Have You Seen This?" is his first foray into the modern thriller genre and is every bit as powerful as his previous tales, making the reader ponder the very nature of our present reality, and just where technology is leading us.
Enjoy this gripping short story that will leave you questioning humanity's place in the future and, more worryingly, whether it's too late to do anything about it...
    Based on a real event.

Detroit Detective John Valentino knows El Camino Drive all too well. His father was murdered there on Halloween, 1978. Antonio Valentino was killed after work by three men, alleging he was having an affair with one of their wives. Claiming self-defense, the murderers are exonerated, believing that a toy pistol in the victim’s pocket was an actual weapon. After the murder trial, a family vendetta is loudly placed against his father’s killers.
Forty years later, Detective Valentino is now an alcoholic, losing his wife and family to his drinking. After his mother dies, he cleans out the attic of her home, to find a wooden truck with an evidence bag from the night of the murder. Included, is a blood-stained, water pistol he once owned as a little boy…the very toy pistol his father used to fool his killers.
One evening, the wife of one of the murderers is found brutally stabbed in her ex-husband’s mobile home. Next to her body, is the stanza of a poem and a toy water pistol. Valentino, the prime suspect, has no idea who the "Water Pistol Killer" is.
With every new murder, there's a new stanza to the poem and a toy water pistol, lying next to the body….
