Chambliss zigzagged the globe interviewing nearly sixty women peacemakers throughout the world in pursuit of learning how peace is actually made. In this book, Women Peacemakers: What We Can Learn from Them, she shares 15 remarkable stories from this band of wildly diverse women change agents, from an Israeli soldier to an Irish nun, a Standing Rock Clan Mother to an ex-princess, a paralyzed Olympic hopeful to a young Zimbabwean orphan who now directs the esteemed Future of Hope Foundation.
Chambliss captures the women's answers to her question, “What advice would you give to someone wanting to become a peacemaker?” She shares over twenty lessons she learned from how the women do their work. The listener is invited to embark on their own act of peacemaking, however small or grand, then write up the story of their undertaking and send it to her website: barbechamblissauthor.com.
Sprinkled throughout the text are poignant quotations about the value of making peace. This book, narrated by the author, is both a deeply entertaining read and a guidebook, crafted by inspiration and calling to everyone on earth who is willing to be counted among the ranks of Conscious Peacemakers.
Barbe is a fourth-generation Coloradan. She’d rather sleep under the stars than beneath a roof, and revels in being outdoors in all seasons of her beloved Rocky Mountains. She recharges her soul and does her best writing at her yurt, perched 8,000 feet high on the edge of an alpine meadow she shares with a herd of elk, a chorus of coyotes and family of pesky marmots. For fun she sings in a Cowboy Corral and plays in a marimba ensemble. Her goal is to wake up the conscious peacemaker in as many people as possible during her life.

    Concerning E M Forster

A major reassessment of the great English novelistThis impressive new book by the celebrated British critic Frank Kermode examines hitherto neglected aspects of the novelist E. M. Forster's life and work. Kermode is interested to see how it was that this apparently shy, reclusive man should have claimed and kept such a central position in the English writing of his time, even though for decades he composed no fiction and he was not close to any of his great contemporaries—Henry James, Ford Madox Ford, Joseph Conrad, James Joyce.Concerning E. M. Forster has at its core the Clark Lectures that Kermode gave at Cambridge University in 2007 on the subject of Forster, eighty years after Forster himself gave those lectures, which became Aspects of the Novel. Kermode reappraised the influence and meaning of that great work, assessed the significance of Forster's profound musicality (Britten thought him the most musical of all writers), and offered a brilliant interpretation of Forster's greatest work, A Passage to India. But there is more to Concerning E. M. Forster than that. Thinking about Forster vis-àvis other great modern writers, noting his interest in Proust and Gide and his lack of curiosity about American fiction, and observing that Forster was closest to the people who shared not his literary interests or artistic vocation but, rather, his homosexuality, Kermode's book offers a wise, original, and persuasive new portrait not just of Forster but of twentieth-century English letters.

“A disarming, intelligent, and timely book” that re-examines religious history and scripture with a focus on the feminine experience (The New York Times).

In the world that created the Bible, there were no female scholars and theologians, yet in recent decades, owing to such stunning discoveries as the Dead Sea Scrolls and the Nag Hammadi texts, as well as advances in historical understanding and the rise of feminism, a generation of scholars has found new ways to interpret the Scriptures and the societies that created them—exploring avenues traditionally ignored by male-dominated religious study.

Surveying the new scholarship and the personalities of those who have created it, The Word According to Eve not only explores afresh the history of our religions but offers exciting new challenges to our sense of worship.

    The Weimar Republic - Inflation...

To summarize everything about this topic, the Weimar Republic was a disaster. Perhaps the setup of the republic wasn’t as much as fault as just the world events that led to the Great Depression, the eventual surrender of Germany to France, Russia, and England in World War I before that, and other significant changes in the economy at the time.
The Weimar Republic was a federal constitutional republic that lasted in Germany from 1918 to 1933. The German Reich (Deutsches Reich) was the main name of the state, which was also referred to as the German Republic (Deutsche Republik). The first word associates with the city of Weimar, which hosted the republic's first constituent assembly. The nation was typically described as "Germany" in English; the title "Weimar Republic" didn't become well-known till the 1930s.
Do you want to buy a few eggs with thousands of marks? How about a loaf of bread for ten thousand dollars? The inflation in the Weimar Republic led to a severe economic downturn, one that had probably never been there ever before. This led to other problems, which also explained the rise of Nazi Germany somewhat later.
If you want to understand all these things, then go ahead and get started.

    Victorian Policing

A cultural history of local law enforcement in Victorian England, from street patrolling and crime detection to corruption among the ranks.

Historian Gaynor Haliday became fascinated with the life of early police forces while researching her own great-great-grandfather; a well-regarded Victorian police constable in the West Yorkshire city of Bradford. Although a citation claimed his style of policing was merely to cuff the offender round the ear and send him home, press reports of the time painted a much grimmer picture of life on the beat in the Victorian streets.

In Victorian Policing, Haliday draws on a variety of primary sources, from handwritten Watch Committee minutes to historical newspapers and police records. She reveals how and why various police forces were set up across the United Kingdom; the recruitment, training and expectations of the men, the issues and crimes they had to deal with, and the hostility they encountered from the people whose peace they were trying to keep.
