Across continents, cultures, and generations, ghost stories rise from the shadows in strikingly similar forms—cries in the river mist, footsteps in the bamboo, a hound that remembers the dead, a creature stalking livestock under the plains' moonlight.
World of the Unseen is a chilling collection that gathers twelve uncanny encounters from around the world, each told in vivid, first-person voices that feel whispered across a kitchen table at midnight.
From Japan's haunted bamboo groves to Mexico's weeping river spirit, from spectral hounds on the English moorlands to modern legends like the chupacabra, these stories blend folklore, lived testimony, cultural memory, and atmospheric horror.
This book also includes:Preface, introduction, and cultural context"Knowledge Pages" explaining regional spirit loreReading guidance and safety notesThemes, motifs, and cross-cultural patternsFirst-person accounts that feel startlingly real

“An intense, gripping read that had me snared from the start.” —Amazon reviewer, five starsIs this London detective hunting a serial killer—or a supernatural entity? “Genuinely creepy and panic inducing moments.” —Scream magazine When a bloody corpse is discovered in a North London park, Det. Insp. Daniel Graves is the man tasked with finding the killer. However, with no clues and no suspects, the case seems like a dead end. Then another body turns up—and this time, it looks like it could be Graves’s fault. Has his investigation caused the murderer to strike again? Is he dealing with a serial killer? As the case gets ever more complicated, a report comes in of another suspicious death—but this is nothing like any other Graves has dealt with. All involved are convinced that something supernatural is to blame: a demon. Graves is no believer, but could he be wrong? With two cases on his shoulders and the truth behind each beyond his grasp, Graves must race against time before both killers, human or otherwise, strike again.Praise for WD Jackson-Smart “[Jackson-Smart] lures readers in and holds them.” —Online Book Club “Had me going all the way to the very end.” —Barbara T. In a quiet French town, a crumbling, locked-up manor stirs the curiosity of all who pass it. No one enters. No one speaks of what happened inside. But behind the overgrown garden and shuttered windows lies a story of love, betrayal, and a chilling act of vengeance.
When a visiting doctor presses for answers, he uncovers a tale that was meant to stay buried. A jealous husband. A secret lover. A sealed fate. The mystery of La Grande Bretèche reveals itself slowly, with devastating clarity.
Told through layers of memory and local legend, Balzac’s short story delivers a compact, suspenseful narrative with a deeply haunting payoff.
Perfect for fans of dark romantic suspense, gothic tales, and French literature with a sharp psychological edge.

"Ex Oblivione" is a prose poem by American horror fiction writer H. P. Lovecraft, written in late 1920 or early 1921 and first published in The United Amateur in March 1921, under the pseudonym Ward Phillips. It is written in first person and tells of the dreams of a presumably dying man. In his dreams, the man is walking through a valley and encounters a vine-covered wall with a locked bronze gate therein. He longs to know what lies beyond the gate. Then one night, the man dreams of the dream-city Zakarion, in which he finds a yellowed papyrus written by wise dream-sages who exist only within the dream world. The papyrus tells of the gate, with varying accounts of what lies beyond: some of the dream-sages tell of immense wonders, while others tell of horror and disappointment. Despite this lack of unanimity, the man still wishes to see for himself, even knowing that whichever of these is true, there will be no return. Thus he reads further into the papyrus and learns of a drug which will unlock the gate. The next night he swallows the drug and returns to the gate which is now ajar, but upon entering, he discovers that indeed both accounts within the papyrus are in a sense true: beyond is the wonderment of forever being free from the pain of the real world and the happy surprise that nothing lies beyond the gate but the infinite void that is death.
