Beschreibung

'A nation that devours another will one day devour itself.'
Set when the Great Devouring comes home, England & Son is a kaleidoscopic odyssey, where disaster capitalism, empire, Thatcherite politics, stolen youth and stolen wealth merge into the tale of a working-class boy who just wants his dad to smile at him.
With some deep, dark laughs – and some deep, dark love – England & Son is a one-man play by Ed Edwards, first performed by the celebrated political comedian Mark Thomas.
It was first produced by HOME Manchester and Tin Cat Entertainment, and premiered in Paines Plough's Roundabout during the 2023 Edinburgh Festival Fringe, directed by Cressida Brown, where it won a Fringe First Award. It went on to win the New Writing Award at the OffFest Theatre Festival Awards in 2024.
This edition also features an illuminating essay by the author, 'Writing the End of Empire'.
Verfügbar seit: 10.08.2023.
Drucklänge: 104 Seiten.

Mental Warfare is a deeply personal collection of poetry that navigates the often-hidden struggles of mental health. I created this book to help people understand mental health and its issues better, shedding light on the raw, intense emotional struggles we face and capturing the essence of inner battles with heartfelt honesty. This chapbook isn’t just about acknowledging the pain, but also about finding paths to healing and embracing empowerment. Through my verses, I aim to connect with those who have felt alone in their journey, offering a blend of reflection and hope. If you’ve ever wrestled with your own mental landscape or sought a way to articulate your inner turmoil, this collection is for you.

'Where is the line between fact and fiction? Not our concern. Truth is just a commodity to be sold.'
When The Sun falsely accuses Elton John, 39, of 'sordid rent-boy sex sessions', the Rocketman blasts it with a whopping multi-million-pound lawsuit…
But for unrepentant editor Kelvin MacKenzie, 40, 'sorry' seems to be the hardest word. He launches a staggering year-long campaign of media harassment, which could break the rocker. In the end: is Elton still standing? Or does The Sun go down on him?
Based on the true story of Britain's biggest-ever libel suit, Monstering the Rocketman is a probing and provocative exploration of truth, privacy and ambition. Henry Naylor's play premiered to critical acclaim at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2025, where it received a Fringe First Award, before transferring to Arcola Theatre, London, in 2026.

Tamburlaine the Great is the name of a play in two parts by Christopher Marlowe. It is loosely based on the life of the Central Asian emperor, Timur 'the lame'. Written in 1587 or 1588, the play is a milestone in Elizabethan public drama; it marks a turning away from the clumsy language and loose plotting of the earlier Tudor dramatists, and a new interest in fresh and vivid language, memorable action, and intellectual complexity. Along with Thomas Kyd's The Spanish Tragedy, it may be considered the first popular success of London's public stage.Marlowe, generally considered the greatest of the University Wits, influenced playwrights well into the Jacobean period, and echoes of Tamburlaine's bombast and ambition can be found in English plays all the way to the Puritan closing of the theaters in 1642. While Tamburlaine is considered inferior to the great tragedies of the late-Elizabethan and early-Jacobean period, its significance in creating a stock of themes and, especially, in demonstrating the potential of blank verse in drama, are still acknowledged. A Debut collection from Black British poet A J Akoto. When is a mother a myth, and when is she a monster?
In an intimate and unflinching collection, A J Akoto tracks the complex bind of mother-daughter relationships. Through separation and attempts to mend, longing, and the fluidity of myth/story-telling in defining histories and identities, she collapses the elision between womanhood and motherhood/daughterhood, bringing to the forefront that which usually remains unspoken.
