Beschreibung

The "MYSTERY CLASSICS Boxed Set - Earl Derr Biggers Edition (Illustrated)" presents a captivating collection of Biggers' seminal works, encapsulating the hallmark blend of intrigue, wit, and charm that characterizes his writing. Esteemed for his pioneering role in the detective fiction genre, Biggers created memorable characters, notably the beloved detective Charlie Chan, whose investigations delve into the complexities of human nature amidst rich cultural tapestries. The illustrated edition enhances the reader's experience, intertwining visual art with the gripping narratives, thus elevating the literary context of early 20th-century mystery stories that often reflected societal norms and cultural dynamics of the time. Earl Derr Biggers (1884-1933) emerged as a significant figure in American literature during a period ripe with interest in both crime narratives and Asian-themed stories. His travels, exposure to diverse cultures, and personal experiences during a transformative era effectively informed his storytelling. Biggers' creation of Charlie Chan, an astute Chinese-American detective, not only provided a counterpoint to the typical Western heroes of his day but also explored themes of racial identity and stereotypes, showcasing his nuanced understanding of cultural representation. Readers seeking immersive, intellectual, and entertaining tales will find the "MYSTERY CLASSICS Boxed Set" an invaluable addition to their literary library. This collection not only embodies the essence of classic mystery fiction but also invites reflection on cultural dialogues that persist today. Ideal for both new enthusiasts and seasoned fans of the genre, Biggers' works resonate with timeless appeal and deserved recognition.

YOUNG SHERLOCK HOLMES & JOHN WATSON
The case of the lost fireworks and guy.
This completely new story I have written involves the 10 year old boys who will be the great detective Sherlock Holmes and Doctor Watson, his assistant, when they grow up, this is their formative years where they perfect their skills before adulthood on what my appear to be inconsequential subjects, but the principle remains the same.
This is just one of an extensive series I will be publishing as audio books in the very near future and I do hope you enjoy this first one, and its only $1.25 cents, all subsequent will remain at that price as I would not like price to be a barrier to your enjoyment.
I have worked very hard and meticulously to provide you with an enjoyable experience, the initial opening credit music which does run to approximately 2 minutes sets the scene, so to speak, a violin Holme's musical instrument of choice and is energetic and the closing music ends the tale on a more restrained mode and only about 1 minute.
The story itself runs to about 7 minutes 30 seconds and is of course a short story, it is read in my own voice.
The story starts on 4th November 1895 in the grounds of Buckingham Palace and it discovered that all the fireworks and the guy ready for the next day's night celebrating Guy Fawks (who nearly blew up the houses of parliament on 5th November 1605 along with the members and Charles 1) had gone missing.
Queen Victoria herself had organised the celebration and it would have been extremely embarrassed to have to cancel with all the aristocrats and members of the royal family and their children expecting a spectacular affair.
Needless to say Holmes solves the mystery, returns the fireworks and guy to the Queen and the event is a great success. The Queen summons Young Sherlock Holmes and John Watson to express her great gratitude to them.

    To find a murderer, you need a motive . . .

    THE DETECTIVE
DS George Cross has always wondered why his mother left him when he was a child. Now she is back in his life, he suddenly has answers. But this unexpected reunion is not anything he's used to dealing with. When a disturbing case lands on his desk, he is almost thankful for the return to normality.

    THE QUESTION
The body of a monk is found savagely beaten to death in a woodland near Bristol. Nothing is known about Brother Dominic's past, which makes investigating difficult. How can Cross unpick a crime when they don't know anything about the victim? And why would someone want to harm a monk?

    THE PAST
Discovering who Brother Dominic once was only makes the picture more puzzling. He was a much-loved and respected friend, brother, son – he had no enemies. Or, at least, none that are obvious. But looking into his past reveals that he was a very wealthy man, that he sacrificed it all for his faith. For a man who has nothing, it seems strange that greed could be the motive for his murder. But greed is a sin after all . . .

The Adventure of the Naval Treaty, one of the 56 Sherlock Holmes short stories written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, is one of 12 stories in the cycle collected as The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes. Doyle ranked "The Adventure of the Naval Treaty" 19th in a list of his 19 favourite Sherlock Holmes stories.Holmes explains that several clues all pointed to Joseph: the thief knew the ways of the office well, given that he had rung the bell before seeing the treaty; Phelps had shown his relatives around the offfice; Joseph had dined in London that evening, and took the 11:00 PM train to Woking; Phelps expected to meet him for the train; the theft happened at about 9:40 PM; it was a rainy night, but there were no wet footprints in the passage or office, so the thief had come in a cab; and the burglar who tried to break into Phelps' room was familiar with the layout of the house...Famous works of the author Arthur Conan Doyle: A Study in Scarlet, The Sign of the Four, The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes, The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes, The Hound of the Baskervilles, The Return of Sherlock Holmes, The Valley of Fear, His Last Bow, The Case-Book of Sherlock Holmes, Stories of Sherlock Holmes, The Lost World.
