Sinopse

Captain Austen Rotherby is on a mission of revenge in Paris and chances upon Louis, the head waiter of his favourite restaurant. Bored, he follows Louis to a shady café where he spots a pair he’s long been intrigued by—a South American gentleman and a young girl. Because of certain complications, Captain Rotheby finds himself forced to leave Paris, only to find himself travelling with the aforementioned gentleman, Mr. Delora, and his niece, Felicia. Arriving in London, Mr. Delora falls ill and excuses himself, leaving Captain Rotheby to take care of Felicia. They install themselves at the Milan Hotel, where Louis works, and waits for Mr. Delora, who seems to have vanished into thin air…

The novel details the lives of three characters, first as children and then as adults - Waldo, Em and Lyndall - who live on a farm in the Karoo region of South Africa. The story is set in the middle- to late Nineteenth century - the First Boer War is alluded to, but not mentioned by name. The book is semi-autobiographical: in particular, the two principal protagonists (Waldo and Lyndall) display strong similarities to Schreiner's life and philosophy. The book was first published in 1883 in London, under the pseudonym Ralph Iron. It quickly became a best-seller, despite causing some controversy over its frank portrayal of freethought, feminism, premarital sex and pregnancy out of wedlock and transvestitism. Mark Vincent, who's WBIS, and Quinton Mann, who's CIA to the core, have been adversaries since the day they crossed paths while on assignment, and by rights, it should have been no problem for one to shoot the other. But for some reason, neither ever does, even when it causes problems at their agencies.
However, someone resents the respect they have for each other and sets out to teach Quinn a lesson, having him attacked one night on his own front lawn. Quinn is able to escape the situation, despite how badly beaten he is, but he needs a safe place to shelter in. He won't endanger family or friends. Where does that leave him?
Mark answers his door one night to find Quinton barely able to stand, looking nothing like the suave spook he was used to crossing swords with. After he makes sure there's no one lurking in the area, Mark brings Quinn into his apartment and calls a friend to take care of him. Mann might be a spook, but he's Mark's spook, and no one hurts him and goes scot-free.
While Quinn begins to recuperate, Mark goes after the director responsible for this situation. But will the man Mark assumes is behind the attack on Quinn be the right one? If he isn't, will Mark be able to keep Quinn safe?

Resurrection is the last of Tolstoy's major fiction works published in his lifetime. Tolstoy intended the novel as an exposition of injustice of man-made laws and the hypocrisy of institutionalized church. It was first published serially in the magazine Niva as an effort to raise funds for the resettlement of the Dukhobors. The story concerns a nobleman named Nekhlyudov, who seeks redemption for a sin committed years earlier. His brief affair with a maid resulted in her being fired and ending up in prostitution. The book treats his attempts to help her out of her current misery, but also focuses on his personal mental and moral struggle.(Summary from Wikipedia)
