Synopsis

In this book, which is the second in my series of orthopedic informational guides, I would like to explain frequency, causes, and treatments of knee pain and instability that many of you have experienced or will experience in your lifetimes. In active society there are many sports injuries, activities, and other conditions that affect all of our bodies and especially our joints. As an orthopedic surgeon I have seen thousands of patients of all ages. Most people have no understanding of their injuries or the cause of the pain they are suffering. My purpose in writing this book is from the perspective of an Orthopedic Surgeon practicing 43 years to inform athletes and others of the damage that has been done both anatomically and physiologically to their bodies. Functions have been lost. My goal is to show you how we correct these things using the most conservative methods first and then progressing to surgery if necessary. It can't be emphasized enough that physical therapy is extremely important from the beginning of treatment to the end.In this my second book of the series of body areas to be covered; it is focused on the knee joint cartilages and surrounding muscles, ligaments, and tendons. The anatomy of the bones, muscles, ligaments, plus neurovascular structures will be illustrated and discussed in detail. Then step- by- step we will take various diagnoses, explain them in detail and cover the choices of treatment including outcomes, risks, and potential complications. In this book I will answer questions that you might ask of your orthopedic surgeon, for example:1, What is the exact nature of my knee problem? 2. Why is surgery being recommended?3. What are the specific risks and benefits of the recommended surgery?4. What is the expected recovery timeline?5. What kind of rehabilitation will be necessary?6. What are the potential complications and how common are they?7 What are the alternatives to surgery and what are their success rates?Welcome to! Instant Sunday Times bestsellerAn inside look at the competitive world of Formula One and trailblazer Susie Wolff's 20-year career, taking readers from the driver’s seat and the F1 paddock all the way to the future of the sport. As a young girl in Scotland, Susie Wolff was fascinated by motorsport. The obsession began with the thrill of driving go-karts, which led her to dream of one day racing in Formula One—the pinnacle of motorsport and the fastest racing cars in the world, reaching speeds of over 200 mph. Susie believed that she had what it took, but at the time, F1 was completely dominated by male drivers. The journey was grueling, both physically and mentally. Braking in an F1 car can feel like five times your body weight is pressing against you. Even turning a corner—effortless in a normal car—can exert four times your body weight, pushing you to the limit. But the faster she rose through the ranks, the more obvious it became—she was almost always the only girl out there. The scrutiny was constant. The stakes were sky-high. And the question always hovered: could a woman really compete? Susie didn’t just compete. She broke through. After years of sacrifice and doubt, she earned her shot behind the wheel of an F1 car—25 laps to prove she belonged. She did. But her story didn’t end at the checkered flag. That belief—that she could carve a path through a world not built for women—got her into the paddock and proved that women could be competitive in F1. But it also left her asking a bigger question: how could she help get more women into the trenches? Inspired by her husband Toto’s strategic mind and relentless drive in building one of the most successful F1 teams in history, Susie began to see a new dimension of the sport—one that extended far beyond the driver’s seat. She led a struggling Formula E team and transformed it from being at the back of the grid to championship contention. More than that, she learned to evolve. F1 Academy became her next mission: to inspire young women to enter motorsport and shape the future of the sport she loves.Driven is a thrilling, high-speed story about the highest levels of driving—but more than that, it’s the story of an extraordinary life. From the driver’s seat to the F1 paddock, Susie offers a story of perseverance bound to inspire anyone on or off the track.

Set against a backdrop of economic recession, rampant hooliganism and suspect fashion, Go To War tells the story of how triumph and tragedy shaped English football during the 1980s. It was a decade in which some fans died watching the game they loved, and at times, the 'slum sport' seemed set to implode. Yet, remarkably, the game was on the cusp of morphing into the behemoth it has become today.
Throughout this explosive book, author Jon Spurling delves into the stories behind the successes and strife at clubs including Liverpool, Aston Villa and Arsenal, investigates the trials and tribulations of the England team and explores how 'small-town boys' from Luton, Watford and Wimbledon made their mark. The decade also heralded the arrival of artificial pitches and fanzines, and Spurling introduces us to the new breed of high-profile executives, like Irving Scholar and Martin Edwards, who soon got busy changing the face of football.
Thirty years in the making, Go To War draws heavily on interviews conducted with '80s icons including Terry Butcher, Graeme Sharp and Ray Wilkins, managerial legends like Howard Kendall and Bobby Robson and FA Cup heroes Ricky Villa and Norman Whiteside. Like its precursor, the bestselling Get It On: How the '70s Rocked Football, Go To War provides a unique insight into a pivotal footballing decade.

SI golf writer and author of Tiger & Phil, Bob Harig's Tiger v. Jack, an examination of the greatest argument in golf—who was better—exploring the records, rivalries, statistics, and context of their illustrious careers, including the intangibles that made them both icons. When Jack Nicklaus stunningly won the 1986 Masters for his 18th major championship victory, it was a reminder of the greatness of a golfer who had done so much. The major title – six years after his last – brought into focus again the dominance of his career. At the time, nobody was close to him in major wins, and the idea of anyone getting within miles of Nicklaus’ major record, let alone match or overtake him, seemed, frankly, preposterous. And yet, there was a kid who was just 10 years old when Nicklaus won that last major. Tiger Woods was already thinking about Jack. He would put his accomplishments on a wall by age and try to beat those feats. Eventually, he put Nicklaus’ 18 major titles in his sights, and for the better part of a decade was on pace to match or exceed the record, a remarkable thought itself. The fact that he came up short doesn’t diminish the chase. In Tiger v. Jack, Bob Harig explores and compares the two legends in a lively examination of the greatest argument in golf—who was better, Jack Nicklaus or Tiger Woods—exploring the records, rivalries, statistics, and context of their illustrious careers, including the intangibles that made them both icons. They both had their moments of brilliance and dominance. What we’ve seen from Nicklaus and Woods is likely to never be duplicated, all the more reason to celebrate it.
