Sinopsis

UmiJS is the Ant Group's underlying frontend development framework, an open source project for developing enterprise-class frontend applications. In this book, you'll get hands-on with single-page application development using UmiJS. By following practical step-by-step examples, you'll develop essential skills to build and publish your apps and create a modern user experience with responsive interfaces.
This book will help you learn the essential features of UmiJS and how to set up and build a project from scratch using React, Less, and TypeScript. You'll study Ant Design, a framework based on solid design concepts that provides a series of React components to accelerate interface development. Along the way, you'll see how to make requests and develop the frontend using simulated data while ensuring that your app has a high level of security and feedback. You'll also discover ways to improve your code quality and readability using formatting tools.
By the end of the book, you'll have learned how to use UmiJS to design user interfaces, as well as compile, test, and package your app locally, and deliver your app by deploying it to online services.

    Against Technoableism -...

When Ashley Shew became a self-described "hard-of-hearing chemobrained amputee with Crohn's disease and tinnitus," there was no returning to "normal." Suddenly well-meaning people called her an "inspiration" while grocery shopping or viewed her as a needy recipient of technological wizardry. Most disabled people don't want what the abled assume they want—nor are they generally asked.

In vibrant prose, Shew shows how we can create better narratives and more accessible futures by drawing from the insights of the cross-disability community. To forge a more equitable world, Shew argues that we must eliminate "technoableism"—the harmful belief that technology is a "solution" for disability; that the disabled simply await being "fixed" by technological wizardry; that making society more accessible and equitable is somehow a lesser priority.

This badly needed introduction to disability expertise considers mobility devices, medical infrastructure, neurodivergence, and the relationship between disability and race. The future, Shew points out, is surely disabled—whether through changing climate, new diseases, or even through space travel. It's time we looked closely at how we all think about disability technologies and learn to envision disabilities not as liabilities, but as skill sets enabling all of us to navigate a challenging world.

The origins of the universe are a subject of profound scientific interest and philosophical debate. The most widely accepted explanation for the birth of the cosmos is the Big Bang Theory. According to this theory, the universe began as an incredibly hot, dense point around 13.8 billion years ago. This singularity contained all of the matter and energy that would eventually form stars, galaxies, planets, and everything else that makes up the cosmos.
The event itself wasn’t an explosion in the traditional sense but a rapid expansion of space itself. Immediately following the Big Bang, the universe began to expand exponentially, a process known as cosmic inflation. During this phase, the universe grew from smaller than the size of an atom to a vast, nearly infinite expanse in an instant. The rapid expansion allowed matter and energy to cool, leading to the formation of elementary particles such as quarks, electrons, and neutrinos. As the universe continued to expand and cool, quarks combined to form protons and neutrons, which eventually led to the creation of simple atomic nuclei like hydrogen and helium.
After hundreds of thousands of years, the universe cooled enough for electrons to combine with protons and form neutral hydrogen atoms. This allowed light to travel freely, marking the beginning of what is known as the "cosmic dark ages." During this time, the universe was nearly invisible to the human eye, as light was scattered by free electrons. Eventually, gravity began to take hold, pulling matter together to form the first stars and galaxies.

Paleoclimatology is the study of past climates, offering insights into how Earth's climate system has changed over millions of years. By examining ancient climate patterns, scientists can better understand the mechanisms driving climate change and apply this knowledge to modern and future climate predictions. Unlike modern meteorology, which focuses on short-term weather patterns, paleoclimatology reconstructs long-term climate trends using indirect evidence from natural records.
One of the fundamental reasons for studying past climates is to identify natural climate variability and distinguish it from human-induced changes. The Earth's climate has undergone significant shifts, from ice ages to warm interglacial periods, often driven by factors such as variations in solar radiation, volcanic activity, and changes in ocean currents. Understanding these past fluctuations helps scientists assess current climate trends in a broader historical context.
Reconstructing ancient climates relies on multiple sources of evidence, known as climate proxies. These proxies include ice cores, tree rings, sediment deposits, and fossilized remains, each providing valuable data about past temperatures, atmospheric composition, and precipitation patterns. Ice cores, for example, contain trapped air bubbles that reveal historical levels of greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide and methane. Tree rings can indicate annual climate variations, with thicker rings often signifying favorable growing conditions and thinner rings reflecting harsher climates. Sediment layers from oceans and lakes provide further clues about past environmental conditions, preserving pollen, microorganisms, and mineral compositions that reflect climate changes over thousands or even millions of years.
