Corpses Say The Darndest Things: After the wife of a beloved Chicago televangelist dies, aging private eye Nod Blake gets dumped in the middle of it - on his head. Blake believes dead people are talking to him, but are the victims really begging the gumshoe for help from the other side of the grave? When Blake's nemesis, Detective Lieutenant Wenders, finds evidence that Blake is the murderer, the private dick's life becomes a great big soup sandwich.

Red Herrings Can't Swim: The cynical, wise-cracking private eye is back. From beyond the grave, victims of crimes past are begging for Blake to solve their murders. Meanwhile, in the real world, he's flummoxed by vandals, threats to his life, raucous suspects and a homicide detective happy to pin killings on him.

Murder Can Be A Mistake: Once again, Nod Blake has been dumped in the midst of murder most foul. He is psychically besieged by victims, begging him from beyond the grave to solve their murders. In the real world, he has to deal with an anonymous blackmailer, death-defying stunt men - and a homicide detective who seems to think that Blake is behind it all.

“Liberty demands self-government, but not the right to interfere with others.”“The object of education ought not to be to make all men think alike, but to make each think in the way which is the fullest expression of his own.”“You may kill an artist or a thinker, but you cannot acquire his art or his thought. You may put a man do death because he loves his fellow men, but you will not by so doing acquire the love which made his happiness.” ? Bertrand Russell, Political Ideals'Political Ideals' was written during the upheaval of World War One. It is, in many ways, a statement, of Russell's beliefs, a declaration of the ideas that influenced his thinking on the major events of the 20th century. In this sense, it is essential reading for every student of this great philosopher.

Written in 1835, this is a unique example of sci-fi wrtten by a man much better known for dark and fantastical horror. Intended by Poe to be a hoax, this tale describes a journey in a balloon that includes the view of the Earth from space and a volcanic, seething satellite. From the wiki:"The Unparalleled Adventure of One Hans Pfaall" (1835) is a short story by Edgar Allan Poe published in the June 1835 issue of the monthly magazine Southern Literary Messenger as "Hans Phaall -- A Tale", intended by Poe to be a hoax. The story is regarded as one of the early examples of the modern science fiction genre. The story traces the journey of a voyage to the moon.Poe planned to continue the hoax in further installments, but was pre-empted by the Great Moon Hoax which started in the August 25, 1835 issue of the New York Sun daily newspaper. Poe later wrote that the satirical tone of the story made it easy for readers to see through the supposed hoax.Poe's story had an influence on, and is referenced in, Jules Verne's From the Earth to the Moon, which can be seen as a retelling of the story.[5] Verne acknowledged Poe as the creator of the "scientific novel" when he referred to him as 'le créateur du roman merveilleux scientifique'.Poe later published a similar hoax, "The Balloon-Hoax", in the New York Sun in 1844.
