  Ghostriders: Mors De Caelis is a comprehensive history of AC-130 gunship combat operations in Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia. The story begins with the first AC-130 in 1968, and ends in 1975 at the end of the war in Vietnam. It tells the life and  
  death stories of Spectre crews, who faced extreme danger while hunting trucks on the Ho Chi Minh Trail and providing fire support for US and allied ground forces. Though the AC-130 was credited with 10,000 trucks destroyed, this phenomenal  
  achievement came with a hefty price. Fifty-two Spectre crewmen and six AC-130s were lost during combat operations in Laos and Vietnam. 
   
  Written in third-person omniscient point of view by an experienced combat veteran and Spectre historian, all aspects of the story are derived from official declassified records and personal interviews. The level of detail and context

  The Western Xia Dynasty, founded by the Tangut people, emerged as a powerful and distinct kingdom in northwestern China during the 11th century. Its establishment marked the rise of a unique civilization that balanced influences from the Chinese, Tibetan, and Central Asian cultures while maintaining its own identity. The Tanguts, originally a nomadic group, gradually settled in the Ordos region and later expanded into the Hexi Corridor, an area of strategic importance due to its location along the Silk Road. 
  The dynasty was officially established in 1038 by Li Yuanhao, who declared himself emperor and adopted the title of the Great Xia. Li Yuanhao sought to solidify Tangut sovereignty by breaking free from the dominance of the Song Dynasty. To emphasize independence, he introduced significant reforms, including the creation of the Tangut script, a writing system distinct from Chinese characters, reinforcing cultural identity. Under his rule, Western Xia developed a centralized government, with administrative structures modeled in part after the Song system but adapted to suit Tangut traditions. 
  Expansion and military strength played crucial roles in the rise of the Western Xia. The Tanguts, skilled in cavalry warfare, built a formidable army that enabled them to challenge the Song Dynasty, the Liao Dynasty of the Khitans, and later, the Jin Dynasty of the Jurchens. Frequent conflicts with these neighboring states shaped Western Xia’s military strategies, leading to a highly fortified kingdom capable of defending its territory against multiple threats. While diplomacy was occasionally pursued, warfare was often the means through which the dynasty maintained its influence.

  Astronomy was an avid hobby for the ancient Maya, who recorded and interpreted every aspect of the sky. As a result, many of their most important buildings were built with astronomy in mind, because they believed it was possible to read the will and actions of the gods in the stars, moon, and planets. The Maya studied the sun, moon, and planets, especially Venus. 
  At Xultun, Guatemala, Maya daykeepers published astronomical tables tracking the movements of celestial bodies in the early 9th century during the heyday of Maya astronomy. The tables are also found in the Dresden Codex, a bark-paper book written in the 15th century. Specialist astronomical observers corrected and maintained Maya calendars, which were largely based on ancient Mesoamerican calendars created at least as early as 1500 BCE. The Maya even structured their government in part based on astronomy tracking requirements.
