In this rollicking telling, Donnis Crane relates many short stories of her growing-up years, full of humor and poignant historical detail. Donnis grew up following World War II in the Midwest United States into a family of 6 children. Her family exhibits a hardy Midwestern spirit that was necessary to survive many lean years. Together, her parents Max and June raised six children in his hometown of Cheney, Kansas. Crane describes both her parents as responsible but strict, and adds that her daddy was fun and childlike and enjoyed playing with his kiddos; and her momma as a loving and teaching parent. In vivid detail, Crane describes a family’s everyday life with all its adversities and joys.
