Beschreibung

Empire Collapse Patterns explores why powerful empires decline, identifying recurring vulnerabilities across history. Resource management, socio-political fragmentation, and external pressures emerge as critical factors. Intriguingly, empires often mismanage resources, leading to economic decline and internal conflicts, while internal divisions such as ethnic or economic disparities weaken cohesion.

The book analyzes political structures, economic systems, and social dynamics of empires like Rome and the Ottomans, revealing identifiable patterns. It argues that while each collapse is unique, recurring themes of resource mismanagement, internal fragmentation, and external pressures consistently signal potential decline.

This comparative approach uses historical texts, archaeological findings, and even quantitative methods to identify common patterns and their relevance to the modern world. Structured in three parts, the book introduces a framework, examines case studies, and synthesizes findings. It uniquely emphasizes the interconnectedness of internal and external factors, offering a more nuanced understanding of imperial decline and its applicability to contemporary global powers and international relations.

An incisive account of the crucial role money played in the formation and development of British North America. Promise to Pay follows America’s first paper money—the “bills of credit” of British North America—from its seventeenth-century origins as a means of war finance to its pivotal role in catalyzing the American Revolution. Katie A. Moore combs through treasury records, account books, and the bills themselves to tell a new story of money’s origins that challenges economic orthodoxy and mainstream histories. Promise to Pay shows how colonial governments imposed paper bills on settler communities through existing labor and kinship relations, their value secured by thousands of individual claims on the public purse—debts—and the state’s promise to take them back as payment for taxes owed. Born into a world of hierarchy and deference, early American money eroded old social ties and created new asymmetries of power, functioning simultaneously as a ticket to the world of goods, a lifeline for those on the margins, and a tool of imperial domination.Grounded in sustained engagement with scholarship from multiple disciplines, Promise to Pay breathes new life into old debates and offers an incisive account of the centrality of money in the politics and conflicts of empire, community, and everyday life.

By the mid-15th century, the Byzantine Empire had collapsed and the various Crusades that had taken place in the region had largely disrupted the overland routes of the Silk Road and trade. Compounding the difficulties of trade was the rise of the Ottoman Empire in place of the Byzantines and the outbreak of the Black Death in Europe.
It was roughly around this time that a period of European exploration began, and major factors that contributed to this period of exploration were introduced by the Chinese, albeit indirectly. The magnetic compass had already been developed and used by the Chinese sailors since the 12th century, although it had first been created in the 3rd century BCE as a divination device. The Portuguese started exploring the west coast of Africa and the Atlantic under orders from Prince Henry the Navigator. At this point, Europeans had not yet been capable of navigating completely around Africa since the ships being built were not yet fully capable of being able to sail very far from the coast and navigation in open waters was difficult, but the Portuguese continued pushing down the western African coast looking for ways to bypass the Ottomans and Muslims of Africa who had been making overland trade routes difficult.
In 1488, Bartholomew Diaz rounded the southern tip of Africa, named the Cape of Good Hope by King John of Portugal, and entered the Indian Ocean from the Atlantic. 	The Portuguese had found access to the trade regions that they had been searching for, but sailing from Portugal to India and beyond would require too many resources to travel with at once. To remedy this problem, Portugal began establishing a number of forts and trading posts along the route. The Portuguese were able to establish a fort on the west coast of India, Fort Manuel, in 1500, and in 1505 a fort was erected off the coast of Tanzania.

Chapter 5 - Changes - The story behind the song: The journey we take through life will lead us to paths that either advance us or cause our decline, but we are the ones who must decide which path to take, which change we make, for these are our choices and our changes that ultimately define who we become.

    Author Bio:
Set on creating a worldwide movement and bridging the gap between mental health and EDM music. Open Boundaries looks at music as a piece of the mind, something that transgresses languages, borders and backgrounds, a form of emotive connection that lets people forget, love, release, bring joy, cry, and expose their inner selves. The music itself is a form of expression based on personal self-realizations, with each release being built from pieces of the artists mind and then encapsulated in hard hitting beats, melodic rap flows, highly relatable lyrics and heart-felt vocals, all blended together and realized into in 3 versions; including the exclusively unique 'Message Bound' mixes.

Each release is then supported by the storytelling within the release of the ‘Chapters’, which define the meaning behind each song.

The artist remains anonymous for the purposes of being all inclusive to every person out there, there is no connection to any country or any background with all the focus being on the music and the lyrics, rather than the person behind it. This has allowed Open Boundaries to attract a global reach and fanbase who proclaim their devotion to the artist, along with their unwavering support to the ethos behind it.

From the New York Times bestselling authors of Ghosts of Honolulu comes their most harrowing true story yet.
It's 1942, and New York City is at war. German U-boats are sinking ships just miles offshore, and Washington, DC, is convinced that waterfront spies are providing intelligence targeting the ships. To thwart the threat, the Office of Naval Intelligence reaches out to those with the most sway along the waterfronts of Brooklyn and Manhattan – the mob. The result will be a triumph for the ONI and one of the most successful and controversial operations in the long history of what we now know as NCIS.
The Navy’s alliance with Charles “Lucky” Luciano and his organization will send New Yorker Tony Marsloe and his fellow ONI officers on an international odyssey that includes holding secret meetings with legendary criminals, hunting clandestine spy rings operating on U.S. soil, and conducting daring undercover missions behind the bloody frontlines of the invasion of Italy.
In addition to towering historic figures like Meyer Lansky and General George Patton, readers will encounter a kaleidoscope of agents and gangsters who not only shaped the war in Italy but the future of international crime itself.

Let's go back in time to Victorian England to find out.

Corsets were required for ladies in Victorian times, according to a well-known anecdote. It's debatable how prevalent corsets were, but they compressed a woman's body like a snake, making her waist seem thinner.
Corsets were effective but so tight that they caused internal harm to women. They also induced atrophy in a woman's lower back.
Corsets were so constricting that ladies often collapsed while wearing them!

    But here's the twist...

It was thought that fainting while wearing a corset was a good thing! It was seen as a sign of excellent breeding.
That is why we decided to write this book. You'll find the following inside:
