Beschreibung

"Principles of Computational Geometry" delves into the intersection of mathematics, algorithms, and computer science to solve geometric problems using computational methods. We cover a wide range of topics, from fundamental geometric concepts to advanced algorithmic techniques. Our book explores geometric data structures and algorithms designed to efficiently tackle issues like geometric modeling, spatial analysis, and geometric optimization.
We introduce readers to key concepts like convex hulls, Voronoi diagrams, and Delaunay triangulations, which serve as building blocks for solving complex geometric problems. Additionally, we discuss techniques for geometric transformation, intersection detection, and geometric search, providing the tools needed to analyze and manipulate geometric data effectively.
Throughout the text, we highlight practical applications of computational geometry, ranging from computer graphics and image processing to robotics and geographic information systems. We also explore the theoretical underpinnings of computational geometry, offering insights into the mathematical foundations of algorithms and their computational complexity.
Overall, "Principles of Computational Geometry" serves as a comprehensive guide for students, researchers, and practitioners interested in leveraging computational methods to solve geometric problems efficiently and effectively. With its blend of theory and practical applications, our book offers a valuable resource for anyone exploring the rich and diverse field of computational geometry.

In the beginning, the universe was nothing more than a dense singularity—silent, timeless, and still. Then came the Big Bang, a colossal eruption that scattered matter and energy in every direction. From this explosion, light was born. It was the first visible sign of creation, a brilliant flash that broke the void and ignited the formation of stars, galaxies, and eventually life. Light traveled fast, racing across the empty stretches of the newborn cosmos. It became the symbol of birth and beginning, of knowledge and awareness. Without light, the universe would remain unseen and unknown, a place without structure or story.
But where there is light, there must also be darkness. Darkness is not just the absence of light—it is its counterpart. It filled the vast spaces between stars and galaxies, the silent shadows where light couldn’t reach. In many ways, darkness defines the boundaries of light, giving it contrast and shape. Without the dark, light would have no form. As stars began to shine and galaxies spun into form, so did the shadows. Black holes, vast voids, and mysterious dark matter began to shape the cosmic landscape. Darkness became more than empty space; it became a force of its own, influencing the movement of galaxies and the very structure of the universe.
The birth of stars played a crucial role in this balance. When matter began to clump together under gravity, stars ignited through nuclear fusion. These glowing spheres of heat and light pierced the darkness, scattering energy into the cosmos. But every star also cast shadows, created contrast, and eventually faded back into darkness when their fuel was spent. Supernovae, neutron stars, and black holes emerged from the deaths of stars, returning their light to the cosmic dark. This cycle of creation and destruction shows how light and darkness are deeply connected—each one gives rise to the other.

Dreamer at the End of the Universe tells the epic story of four generations of a Celtic family battling the elements and the animals to scrape a living from a land with no fat and little lean. Ours was a wilderness farm in Central Ontario populated by animals, insects, and rocks. And I loved that place. The early generations killed the animals and fought the land. My generation has come to realize who owns this place. Humans have been tenants for a handful of years, while the true owners are the animals who have their own lives. As Charles Darwin wrote, “There is no fundamental difference between man and animals in their ability to feel pleasure and pain, happiness, and misery.”The farm rested in a cradle of rocks called the “Land Between.” This is a region where two iconic environments collided, the Canadian Shield and the St. Lawrence Lowlands, to create a vast area rich in plants, animals, and people—the best of both ecosystems. Together with My Cousin & Me: And Other Animals plus Wolves: Ryders in the Whirlwind, this book comprises a trilogy, I call The Land. In the beginning, I had no conscious intention of writing a trilogy, but after a while, the people, the bears, the wolves, and the other animals in my stories took on a life of their own, thus demanding more description, time, and care. I was attentive to such pleading, such longing to be remembered, before the time when all this will be forgotten. This enchantment with the land, animals, and people is still fresh in my memory. This happiness is still felt in my heart. And had I the strength and the wisdom, I would write a fourth volume, but all good things end.Postscript:Gordon Harrison is an award-winning author of books on nature, science, and art. When he isn’t writing, or drinking Glenmorangie single malt scotch whiskey, he’s photographing the “endless forms most beautiful and most wonderful” of Ontario. The author has placed 193 of his wildlife photos in this new book.

    COVID WARS - America's Struggle...

A sweeping, deeply researched chronicle of the COVID-19 pandemic, weaving together science, politics, and personal freedoms.
Ronald Gruner, with the precision of a historian and the curiosity of a citizen, takes the listener from the roots of virology in the 19th century to the chaotic pandemic years of 2020–2022. The book doesn’t just tell the story of a virus—it lays bare the cultural and political divide that shaped America’s uneven and often painful response.
Gruner’s writing is crisp, and he breaks down complex topics without dumbing them down. The opening chapters—“Contagium” and “The Warning”—build a compelling backstory on pandemics past, from the 1918 Spanish Flu to the eerie predictions of the Bush and Obama administrations.
COVID WARS isn’t shy about calling out failures. Politicians, conspiracy theorists, media figures, and even some public health leaders get held accountable. The chapter “The Divide” lays it all out—how the pandemic morphed from a health emergency into a political food fight. Gruner points fingers but backs it all up with evidence, charts, and historical comparisons.
What listeners will appreciate most, though, is Gruner’s balance. He’s clearly frustrated with misinformation and poor leadership, but he doesn’t come across as bitter or one-sided. The chapter “Lockdowns” captures this tone perfectly. He acknowledges the economic devastation and emotional toll, especially on children and small business owners, while also recognizing that something had to be done to slow the rising death counts. If you’re curious about what really happened, how we got here, and how it could have been different—COVID WARS will be worth your time.
COVID WARS is not just a book about the pandemic. It’s a mirror, and what it reflects is both sobering and necessary.
